Do you review products?

Pretty simple question. I buy dozens of products online every year, and I probably average writing one product review per year if that. However, I use others' reviews all the time to help me make purchase decisions, so I kind of feel like a leech on the system.

Am I a horrible person? Or are reviewers actually the weird ones?

I will put a brief review on something I feel strongly about but I don't go into all the detail some of these other people do. I appreciate their posts though.

I'm a terrible person. I use the hotels.com and tripadvisor sites all the time and never write reviews. It seems to me that I'm spending my time helping to make Expedia or whomever more profitable, even though I know that the information is used by elderly widows and orphans.

I try to as I read a lot of reviews before pulling the trigger on something, but I only do it if it's a slow day at work. No way would I spend my own time doing it.

I don't think you're a horrible person, but knowing a little bit about you, I'd like to read a review from a guy like you about something I was thinking of purchasing. You seem smart enough and well spoken enough to be a valuable asset to the online review community. Get to work, please.

Side note. The reviewers I hate the most are those idiots that right a review 10 minutes after they buy a product. "I just took the laptop out of the box and it works great! Best computer I've ever owned! 5 stars!" Cmon, man. Use the product for a week or two and then write a review when you're more familiarized with it.

Rarely. I buy shit off amazon for the convenience. I'm purely in it to save time. Adding reviews is counter-intuitive.

Many years ago, I wrote reviews for a site called epinions. They had a nice model where you actually got paid based on the number of people who read your reviews. It was a pittance, but if you wrote a good review on something popular, you could make five bucks or so and it was a nice ego feed. It would add up over time, and the key was to find a product that was somewhat popular but didn't have many reviews so that yours would get read more. You could write reviews on typical products or you could write book reviews or other things.

I don't know if they still use that model or not. I got bored with it pretty quickly and stopped writing them.

If the service sucks you are getting kicked in the nuts

If it rocks you get all 5 stars

It takes a shitty experience for me to actually login and go on a reviewing spree

I try to do it, probably end up actually doing it sometimes. The reviews can be useful, some are TLDR but others are nice and to the point. And holy shit Tampa tied it.

I kind of let this drop yesterday, but the results (even with 30 people) are interesting. Looks like reviews largely represent the opinions of maybe 15% of people at most in general, with most of us only chiming in under certain circumstances.

At least I'm not the only slacker.
