Carrier landing in Top Gun. Go through all the headache to shoot down a bunch of Russians then crash into the damn deck...

Battletoads. Scooter. Nobody that's played this game needs any further explanation.

Dodgeball. Beat the nuclear experiment gone-wrong, Borris and your reward is having to play against yourself. Sam is bitch.

I feel like this is another one I don't need to explain. If you played TMNT on console, this level killed you many times (seriously though, just use Rafael as a sacrificial lamb and advance...)

I can proudly (sadly) say that I beat all of those.

Beating battletoads still ranks ahead of my law degree on my list of life's accomplishments. That damn scooter level required a co-pilot. It took us forever getting there, making it 10 seconds (while furiously scribbling the pattern) then dying. Start over, get there, make it 12 seconds...die. On and on until we finally got the pattern written down and memorized.

We were not going to be beaten by !@#$ing battletoads.

Additionally, everyone knows that Randy belongs in the starting lineup - Sam, Randy and Steve FTMFW.

Scariest Moments in Videogaming

That Mike Tyson uppercut used to get my heart rate going when I was a kid..

Scariest game moments for me would probably be about 90% Resident Evil based, though. I legitimately could not play those games alone.

I remember a part of Resident Evil 1 where you were walking down the hall, and giant spiders jumped through the window. I jumped out of my seat and screamed a few obscenities. One of my favorite games ever.
