Mock (4/19)

1.18. CB Kevin Johnson, Wake Forest

The Chiefs have the 2nd best secondary in the NFL, and it's returning in its entirety. This pick is a plan for the future -- Sean Smith doesn't look like he's going to be extended, and Jamell Fleming is a free agent next year as well.

Johnson is a CP favorite around these parts, for good reason. Dude is a football player -- outstanding length, technique, and aggressiveness. He's the kind of guy championship teams select. He only runs a 4.5, however, and that means Dorsey could realistically pass on him. Hopefully cooler heads prevail over player evaluation dogma.

2.49. C Hroniss Grasu, Oregon

The Chiefs need a swift, technically proficient center to fill in for the departing Rodney Hudson. Grasu is a day one starter with Pro Bowl upside.

3.80. WR Chris Conley, Georgia

Alex Smith demands more guys who can get open in a heartbeat, and that's exactly where Conley excels. His 10-yard split of 1.52 is unholy fast.

3.98. S Anthony Harris, Virginia

The secondary is a team's strength, but it needs to get much, much better at generating turnovers. Harris is a turnover machine, loves playing the run, and is a terrific athlete.

4.118. DE Marcus Hardison, Arizona State

An extraordinary athlete at the 3-4 DE position, Hardison has the exact measurables that attracted Dorsey to Jaye Howard and Mike Catapano, and gave Allen Bailey an extension.

He's yet another DL that jolts off the snap and penetrates the pocket in a heartbeat. Like everybody else, he'll struggle to stop the run, but his long arms and great strength suggest that's something he can change with coaching.

5.172. TE James O'Shaugnessy, Illinois State

A very long receiver with excellent speed and great hands. Will need some work running routes and blocking.

5.173. CB Charles Gaines, Louisville

A great special teams player with tons of ability in the slot.

6.193. WR Rannal Hall, Central Florida

6.217. NT Terry Williams, East Carolina

7.233. ILB Junior Sylvestre, Toledo
