"This is as good as it gets."
I'm shamelessly re-posting this here, but it's just a post from a guy on reddit. I know some won't like it, but I think it's good to have a reminder that THIS IS WHY WE WATCH FOOTBALL. I hope everyone's enjoying the ride regardless of what happens in January.
----- https://www.reddit.com/r/KansasCityC...od_as_it_gets/ Some of you will take great issue with this post and that's fine but something someone else said really set me off and made me need to write this. This is as good as it gets. If you are going to be an NFL fan, our current position is the best you should ever reasonably expect. Almost certainly in the playoffs, still a chance at #1 and certainly a chance at #2. The opportunity to watch rivalry games with our families on Christmas and New Years. On average, teams score 1.9 points per drive. And yet many of us express rage when a third down catch is dropped. The last five Super Bowl champs have, on average, lost 5 games in the regular season. And yet many of us express rage when we lose one game to a good team. Of the 32 current teams, 4 have never been to a Super Bowl. 13 have never won a Super Bowl. The Vikings and Bills each went to four and lost all of them. 4 teams haven't been to the playoffs in 12+ years. 10 teams - one third of the league - has not won a playoff game in 11+ years. Half of the league hasn't won a playoff game in 5+ years I don't know what seed we'll get. I don't know if we'll win a playoff game. I don't know if we'll make or even win the Super Bowl. But the feeling most of us have right now of constant excitement, the memories we're creating with our families and fellow fans - this is all there is to this. A lot of people on this sub and as sports fans in general take this attitude of "I expect championships, that's the only point." And I really do get that. But that is the kind of attitude we should each have for our own lives - to strive to be our best selves. When you're instead referring to a team you've arbitrarily chosen to support who play an arbitrary game for your amusement - saying that you demand performance from people and situations you have zero control of is a path to perpetual disappointment. I hope that come New Years day no matter where we stand - in or out, #1 or not - all of you enjoy this feeling, all of you make new Chiefs memories, and all of you see that this is why we're fans. |

My 8 yr old has really taken off with football this year. He loves the CHIEFS. Does the Mitch Holthus "Touchdown Kansas City", high fives. Has a route tree for running patterns. Has me quiz him on routes. Great times. Passing the football around and playing like he plays for the CHIEFS is the best thing ever. All game he replays catches like he is instant replay.
Love my CHIEFS!!! He dislikes the Steelers. Always plays against them on his games.(for like a couple years it's always been Chiefs vs Steelers) Dislikes the Donks and Fade too.

We've discussed it in other threads, but you have to wonder if some of those stats are why the NFL has struggled recently.
People act like it's the most "even" sport... but really most all of the playoff success is limited to a handful of teams. For the Chiefs to even get to the Super Bowl, they have to break through a 2+ decade run by the 4-5 teams who have controlled the AFC since the mid-80s. |

the nfl wants parity between all teams but, no one wants to go to a game if everyone is going to finish 8-8

Football talk on reddit puts this place to shame. I see threads there and remember when CP used to have that kind of quality discussion.

It's a much slower pace than over here, but the content that IS there is usually pretty solid, I agree. The downvoting system prevents a lot of the bullshit from getting much traction.
