PC Gaming Microphones_Anyone Use Them?

My son tells me he'd like a microphone for his PC gaming. He plays the usual, Fortnite, Overwatch, etc.

We're looking at the Blue Snowball vs. Blue Yeti and trying to figure out if the Snowball is good enough for what he wants to do with it.

Any input on this question, other microphones to try, related topics, or how to internally combust after chugging a Prestone cocktail would be much appreciated.

My nephew has some sort of PC gaming mic. Personally, i don't get it. He paid a bunch of money for it and i don't think he sounds any clearer than everyone else who uses the mic off their headset.

Both of those mics are considerable overkill for a gaming mic. I'd try a $25 headset/mic first. Those work just fine for gaming.

So strange, my 13 year old just did a bunch of chores for one the other day. He bought this and loves it.

For gaming yes, for live streaming not so much. That's what the kids are into these days.

Yeah but teenagers. My nephew is the same way.

Personally i wouldn't want a desktop mic. It's just one more freakin' thing on your desk.

And im guessing Vail's kid has a mechanical keyboard too.

It's the freakin' worst when these guys have a mechanical keyboard and an open desktop mic.

The one my nephew bought looks like a freakin' silver vibrator. I was making fun of his sex toy mic and he got all butt hurt about it "It's one of the best mics you can get!"

I started doing a bit of searching for a new mic myself since one of my cats decided to get tangled up in the wire of my old one and take off like a bat out of hell and snapping it.

I've listened to reviews on YouTube of all of the popular mics and was gonna get that modmic thing but then noticed it was $50.

Im not streaming or anything so I don't want to spend that much on a mic. I think now I'm leaning towards that cheap Fifine K669 for around $28. Sounds no worse than that Blue Snowball everyone raves about for half the price. But its pink so your kid might not go for that.

I JUST USE a headset/mic combo. I have Razer Kraken Pro 2.0 and a Hyper X cloud II and they are both great. Razer headset is a bit louder though. I mostly use the Hyper X on PC and my Razer on my PS4.

One suggestion would be to get him a pair of decent headphones with a detachable audio cable and then this: https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPr.../dp/B00BJ17WKK.

It's considered one of the best mics out there.

If he's watching Twitch and wants to have that "streamer" feel, he'll probably want a tabletop so your choices would make sense.
