Bwana,
FWIW, I get the feeling we can run the ball on Indy. We did that well last year, at least early in the game if I remember rightly. We need to win the time of possession battle by about a 2:1 ratio, as well as the TO battle if we pull this one off. Manning WILL burn us deep at will unless something drastic changes, and that will have to be the emergence of an excellent pass rush, rather than good one-on-one coverage by DBs IMO. I don't see us winning, but I do see us putting up a strong showing. Colts 27, Chiefs 20. |

I predict as Frazod said in another thread a nuclear a$$ whupping. The Chiefs last year looked clueless in their opener against the Bears, anyone remember that fiasco? This could get ugly early. If they score a couple of quick TD's the skybox stooge will hit the panic button and go postal with the pass which isn't exactly our strong suit.
I think this has 35-7 written all over it. Maybe Gun has been just playing along and making everyone think we $uck, but from his look on the sideline I fear it maybe that we do indeed $uck. ------------------ Still I dream of a cold frosty day probably too far away when the Chiefs are still playing football in mid January |

I'm steeling myself for a huge defeat next Sunday. We simply aren't ready to compete with such a powerful oppenent yet. I know its home opener and the D.T. tribute game-- More's the pity. I am hoping for at least a decent, cohesive ballclub on the field vs the Colts. Victory, sad to say, is probably not within our grasp. Gunther may have much to answer for before the season's over.
Hoping against hope that I'm wrong; That everything's in place and that we come out hungry and lean. That we hear and answer the call of the Arrowhead faithful. That we do justice to Derrick Thomas' memory. |

This is a serious prediction.
35-17 Chiefs. The Colts WILL be underestimating us and it's their first game also. We have the DT factor and I think you will see a truly motivated, hard hitting, turnover causing team on the field. Our running game is better than last years and so are our STs. I wouldn't be surprised to see our D score 14 pts this game. Look for Chester and Clemmons to have big games on D. On O, Cloud and Richardson could gain 100 yds each. If that even comes close to happening, then Gonzales and/or Alexander are going to have some TDs. Luz ok, fire away at me, just save this post... |

Luz-
No flames from me. I have no information upon which to make a prediction. You cannot evaluate the Chiefs from preseason games when the Head Coach refuses to game plan for preseason games. Good idea or not, that is the way it will be as long as Gunther is HC. In a factual vacuum, you must base your prediction on the "paper" team, gut instinct and Homerism. Paper team: The Colts have the kind of O that can trash an aggressive, attacking D. Manning is the best QB in the NFL [Warner Homers chill out, please, your man had one good season and might eventually take over the top spot, but has not earned it yet]. James is certainly one of the elite HBs and Harrison is a great WR. This is the kind of balanced Offense the Broncos rode to two championships. Where do you attack a truly balanced Offense? Gut instinct: The Chiefs will be pumped for this game. Gunther will unleash the Defense on Manning and accept the occasional blown coverage for a big play. There is really no other choice. We will not shut the Colts down with a conservative, "bend, but don't break" Defense. Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war. Homerism: Arrowhead. DT tribute. A chance to atone for a lousy end to last season. Prediction: If we get a pass rush from our front four, we can win a hard-fought, low scoring smashmouth game by keeping the ball on the ground. If we do not get the pass rush, we receive the nuclear *** whupping [great term, BTW]. FWIW, if I were to bet on the game [which I will not], I would put my money on the Colts. xoxo~ gaz yes, he's ready for some football.<BR> |

I must believe, out of homerism and hope, that the open offense we heard about during the summer camps, and training camp, will finally be unveiled (Moe notwithstanding), and that Chiefs will catch the Colts by surprise. With that hope in mind, my score Chiefs 38-24.

Ok I'm going out on a limb here and say the Chiefs will win 27-24. I agree with those who say that the home crowd, DT's memory, and the ground game will keep us in it as well as our defense coming around. Don't forget that we lost to the Colt's last year 17-25, on their home turf, and were in the game till almost the end. I will agree that Indy has a very powerful "O". The problem last year was their defense. Granted if our offense comes around this weekend, I believe we can score points on their defense. That's if the Colts haven't addressed their defensive problems. I didn't see anything in the preseason to indicate that they had. Of course it was just preseason. I feel this game could be very interesting and a nailbiter (I hate those cuz they cause me to pace). Let's not panic untill we've seen a few games.

This is tough. Normally I'd have supreme confidence in picking the Chiefs to win their home opener, but after seeing all the problems with our team in preseason, I'll go with the Colts 31-17.
Offensively we'll either come out with our usual vanilla atack that has failed us miserably in the preseason, or we'll finally unveil our opened-up offense which will produce mistakes due to a lack of practice with it in game situations. We should be able to run the ball well, but I have my doubts about our passing attack. Defensively we could be primed for a shredding by Manning and Harrison. We don't seem capable of stopping anybody on 3rd and long either. Screen passes will again plague us, and James should have a good day. Our DL will probably struggle to get pressure against a real OL. |
