Well, We Probably Should Have a Brian Orakpo Thread...

If we keep playing like this, we won't be in a position to draft Stafford. It's not good or bad, it is what it is.

With that being said, a genetic freak like Rak daddy would go a long way towards fixing the ills of this defense. He's not as long as Michael Johnson, but he's fast, explosive, and incredibly strong. Plus, he's taken boxing lessons, so Krumrie will love him with his ****tard slap-fight drill.

There could be worse selections in the 3-7 range where we will most likely choose.

Fair enough. I think that's the easy way out because it's impossible to shoot holes though a non-opinion.... And this board would be all the more boring without them.

But I guess we'll have more time to give it another go as the off season comes closer.

If I want to put on my Miss Cleo hat, here are two scenarios:

We'll assume that the CBA doesn't implode and everyone doesn't declare.

1) The Chiefs finish 1-15 and draft #1. You take Matt Stafford every time. "You don't pass up a franchise QB unless you have one."

In the second round, you don't really "target" any position, as there is good value everywhere and you are chock full of holes. Now, there will probably be a couple of good guards there, or maybe a guy like Rashad Johnson for you to pluck at FS...or if you are really lucky, Darius Heyward-Bey to be your burner opposite Bowe.

Successful cover 2 teams should easily be able to pluck solid LB talent out of rounds 2-4, but this isn't a terribly deep class. Some of the top end guys are really solid (Aaron Curry).

The main thing is to remember that you aren't going to plug all these holes with even this draft. We need two more classes to really fix everything.

QB, C, RG, RT, RDE, FS, MLB must all be addressed
WLB, SLB, RB, WR all need depth.

And scenario 2:

If Stafford isn't there, you pick Orakpo. Mecca will probably want Johnson, and we'll fight to the death over it. Now, if we somehow finish 3-13 and end up drafting 6th, I'll probably kill myself.

I wouldn't touch Johnson in the top 5. The only reason he's even being considered a top prospect is because he is 6'7". He hasn't produced at the college level and has a poor motor.

Johnson has draw dropping measurables, but he doesn't apply this to his game.

Now that's more like it. I knew you had some concrete thoughts on the matter in ya.

I personally don't think we'll get the chance at Stafford with that 1st pick but yeah I agree with you in that he's the guy to target if available.

My original logic in the DE move was to try to fill two major holes with top notch players at once.

I'm aware of the dangers of big name FAs who have fallen short. The list is long. So yes it'd be a gamble. But I'm a big Rey Maualuga fan and I think we've ignored our LBers long enough. On the other hand, we need a DE badly. Thus my willingness to take a chance on a top notch (we have the room) DE and in drafting Rey.

I think that could go a long way in helping out.

We'll see.

/puts on my flame resistant suit

I wouldn't have a problem trading down to take Maualuga in a good value spot and picking up maybe an extra 2nd round pick.

You do everything in your power to trade down. There are teams who will be salivating over Oher and Andre Smith, maybe even Michael Crabtree. These are guys we don't need.

If you trade down, you could probably land a 2nd round pick and then 1 or two extra picks on the side. The second round is a great time to pick up an interior offensive lineman, maybe even a RB or insurance QB. Even if you don't get compensation that exactly matches the draft chart, you still make the trade.

Orakpo would be nice, but I'm not sure if he's better suited for a 3-4 and if he'd only be a situational rusher in a 3-4.

If we finish 3-13 and draft 6th, there are some really bad football teams out there.

I think it would be a waste, it means you are basically giving up on Albert. We have a LT, you don't take another one in the top 5 when you can actually fill a need.

BPA is stupid unless it is fused with positional value.
