Denver switching to a 3-4 defense

We hear Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels’ announcement that the team would transition to a 3-4 defense was welcome news to Broncos DEs Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder, who were the team’s top two picks in the 2007 draft. Moss and Crowder struggled to get playing time last season, and both looked extremely disappointing in limited duty. Moss is expected to become a “stand-up” defender in the new scheme, where he should be a better fit, and Crowder appears more suited for a role as a 3-4 end.

Dorsey may be the key to our defense if we run a tampa 2,but if we swtich to a 34, he no longer is the key, so there is nothing stopping him. Dorsey wasn't his pick, so its not his loss if he has to bench him or trade him... time will tell though, we will all just have to wait a few days to a few weeks.

No, I don't think so. He's best suited as an undertackle in a Cover 2, but he wouldn't be terrible as a 3-4 end. If Pioli doesn't think so, he can try to trade him. Bottom line, if Pioli truly believes in the 3-4 system, he'll switch to it.

This.

The Jets ran off their defensive core to move to the 34.

If he feels it's best for the team, he'll do it, just like the Jets, Ravens and 49ers have done, and the Broncos are about to do.

Agreed that Pioli will almost certainly want you guys moving to a 3-4.

I'm all for the move, I think DJ could prove his worth as a OLB in the 3-4

DJ is not a natural pass rusher

he can blitz and do alright but he's not show any real "rushend" moves

we need at least 2 new linebackers and 2 new dlineman so it would be the time to switch.

Dorsey would be lost in a 3-4 prolly .. that hurts

DJ can work in a 4-3, but RARELY gets used during blitzes. When he did, it worked awesomely.

IIRC, scouting reports said he WAS a fit in the 3-4, didn't someone post that recently too?

Overall: One, if not the top, DT prospects to enter the NFL in the past 10 years, Dorsey showed the ability to dominate in the SEC when healthy. There are some concerns that he does not protect his legs adequately due to his injury history. He projects to work in any defense, but his best position would be as a three technique in the 3-4 defense as he excels when able to operate in space.

firt one I found that listed potential schemes at the Pro level. third listing down from a yahoo search on his scouting report.

If Dorsey is anywhere near as good as his draft grade, a productive place can be found for him in the 3-4.

I think DJ can be a decent 3-4 ILB.

Good find. Not only may it not be a problem for him, he could be more suited for the 3-4. Funny.

but it doesn't change the fact that blitzing as a linebacker and blitzing as a Defensive End are very different things.

maybe DJ could ....... but it would be a new skill

if he is an outside LB in a 3-4 he would also have to defend the run as a DE which is another "new skill" he would have to show.

just sayin'
