Emergency blood drive this afternoon - Monday 5/23

The Greater Kansas City chapter of the American Red Cross will hold an emergency blood drive this afternoon to provide blood for those injured in the tornados over the weekend.

The blood drive will be from 2 to 7 p.m. in the Cass County Room at 211 W. Armour Blvd.

Meanwhile, the Community Blood Center is requesting area residents to donate blood this week to help support the rescue efforts in Joplin.

The blood bank has shipped 15 units of blood to the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks. Local hospitals are performing surgeries on some of the victims and the need for blood will increase as the rescue efforts continue.

Distraught family members wrongly ID'd a body and they almost buried the wrong person.

There are plenty of stands on the fringe. But if people are cleaning out the area, well its not exactly smooth streets. I can see keeping as many people out as possible.

Oh yeah. I was down on 22nd and main within 20 minutes of it happening looking for my daughter. Spent the rest of the night going around with groups checking for survivors.

From what I have seen, there are way too many non critical need people in the area.

I talked to a tree service guy from Indiana that said he drove 14 hours straight to get there.

He was hanging out in a gas station looking for something to do.

Meanwhile local people were in the areas cutting up trees with chainsaws.

It's just to disorganized from what I can see.
