I know this doesn't format well, his final numbers for the preseason are 5 of 11 for 32 yards, 1 sack, 7 rushes for 21 yards. No INT and no TD.

From the way it was worded, only the QB was claimed off waivers. The DE just said he was going to sign here. If nobody claims a released player off waivers, they're free to go wherever they want. So maybe he's a practice squad guy, meaning that he wouldn't take anyone's roster spot.

For all the talk about overpaid NFL players, the Pioneer Press points out today that not every NFL player has it made.

Vikings defensive end Khreem Smith is dead broke with bills to pay. If he makes the Vikings roster all season, his $280,000 contract will finally allow him to get out of the debt that's been a pretty constant part of his life. He doesn't want to think about what will happen if he doesn't make the team.

"Oh, yeah, I'm desperate," Smith said. "I've been desperate since I left home. I have to make it. If not, my marriage will go down the hole and I'll be starting all over again. It's frustrating, and sometimes I want to give up. But I think about my mom, my wife and my kids, and I get focused again."

It's an outstanding feature and well worth the read. Smith doesn't own a car, is staying at a teammates apartment rent-free and ate at the team's cafeteria for free during the offseason because he can't afford to eat elsewhere.

So when you're watching Vikings' games this preseason keep an eye out for No. 90. He had two sacks during the practice session with the Chiefs on Friday and he's got a chance to make the team--after reading this story it's hard not to root for him.

The Chiefs have only 2 QB's on the roster. They need at least one more arm for practice (and will presumably sign another QB to the practice squad).

I wouldn't ready too much into this waiver claim.
