Neil Smith - Superhero, supervillain, or something in between?
The discussion in the Derrick Thomas thread makes me wonder about the consensus on Neil. I think we all know the story of Neil, so I won't bother with a briefing.

Still a fan of the 90s smith. While he was wearing orange he looked out of place, made me a bit uncomfortable but too many good memories to hate him over this game of football.

I blame Carl. Neil deserved to get paid.
He's still a notch below the Chiefs superheroes for being a Benedict Arnold, though. Anyone but Denver...

He was spurned by Carl, this makes Carl a bigger traitor than smith. IMO. At the end of the day he had to go where he got the money and situation he wanted. Hard for me to put all that on NS

I'll always hold a special place in my heart for the 90's Chiefs. I didn't have hatred for Gannon for leaving us and eventually getting to a Superbowl with the Raiders. I believe the success and comments of Neil Smith with the Broncos is why I gave him slightly negative. It definetly tarnished what could have been.

I never want to see him in Arrowhead ever again, and I want him removed from the Chiefs Ring of Honor. If you're going to keep him in, then put all Donk gear in his glass cubicle. That will show all the Chiefs fans what a STUPID ****ING MOVE it was to put him in our ring.

As someone who started following the Chiefs in 1998 (when I was five years old) I would appreciate if someone filled me in on the story. I have heard it referenced several times, but never got low down.

Tomorrow morning during business hours, call the Chiefs main switchboard. Ask for a guy named Bob Moore. Ask Bob to explain it to you. That's his job.

Side note, when I first moved to CO around 16 years ago my friends took me to the Diamond Cabaret (strip club) and we were hanging out a smaller stage when my buddy elbowed me and said "Isn't that Neil Smith across the stage?". Sure enough it was him, I didn't bug him but did notice he was only throwing out two singles at a time. |
