I haven't seen the floaters but, yes I have too much experience with fire ants. They are nasty for both humans and pets. In certain areas of Houston, rolly-polly bugs are worse though. Rolly-polly's won't bite you, but they can become a nuisance just because there are SO many of them and they crawl into your house and die - it's a real pita.
I'd still rather live with the heat, fire ants, & rolly polly's than have one day in freezing temperaturs. :D |

Fire A nds in Houston
The ants here are terrible. Some of my friends who lost cars in the flood happened to come upon a couple of mounds of them which made it almost impossible for them to walk through the floods to make it to safety.
Now it's hot as . . . well you know

Ethelyn,
Did you weather the flood ok? I nearly got stuck near the heights. My girlfriend lost her brand new pathfinder in a parking garage under the Allie Theater. I think there is a topic discussing the flood from 2 or 3 days ago. Welcome aboard. Dante Hall's girlfriend used to post on this board last year. All the Houston people got together to watch the Chiefs/Rams game last year including her. I don't think they are together anymore though. It was pretty fun - if we do it this year, we'd like to see you come out for it. Phil |

Fire Ants in Houston
That's fine with me as my son plays for Kansas City. You may have heard about him - his name is Mikhael Ricks. This year he's gonna play tight end behind Tony G.
Luckily I didn't have any water damage. I live by the Astrodome and the street decided to flood on Saturday. I work at 610 and 290 and I heard that the streets were flooded really bad, but I was okay. Thanks

fire ants are the debil!
I had a buddy in college who lived at Lake Okechobi FL in the summers with his dad(who played for the redwings)....
he trimmed palm trees(?) for a summer job, and got into fire ants...they swarmed up his legs to his "junk"....thousands of bites...he was hospitalized for 2 weeks.... ~it sounded very unpleasant....I'd be buying nutcups with ant traps;) if I lived there. |

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and we had a lot of flooding from the same storm Monday Morning, about 8" of rain in two hours. I saw several fire ant "rafts" float past my house, but what really freaked me out was the 4 foot long Rattle snake I killed in my front yard after the water subsided. The snake was found by my 5 yr old daughter, that scared the hell out of me, but rest assured a shovel still makes snake heads fall off.

Zebedee posts in the daytime!
I happened to be in Huston during the 93? flood and saw ant-balls floating by. I tried to drown them by tapping them with my foot, but didn't make much progress. Probably a dumb thing to do, but I was bored waiting for the water to go down so we could leave the place I was stranded at. Lucky I didn't get bitten.
Zeb, Strangely at home, waiting for the electrician, alarm service guy, and a tree trimmer.

John,
Did your daughter come to the house to tell you about the snake or did you notice your daughter playing outside and then you observed the snake near her. These fire ant "balls that float" must be a strange sight to witness.

Well, he got a raw deal in San Diego last year. His speed was great, but he never got the ball. He was always the last to come back into the huddle, because he always went out for the long passes. The reason that he was released, strictly political, was that he was a bad influence on Ryan Leaf. Imagine that.
When he initially went to the combine a couple of years ago, some of the Kansas City scouts saw him and I think that he was told if he was ever released, KC would pick him up. He got released . . KC picked him up. He didn't play last year except for the last game in Atlanta and then he was on special teams. From what people have said his speed is good, he's quite athletic and he definitely has a height advantage. He's trying to gain some weight for the Tight End position. He'll probably be the (I hope) second tight end, but he'll get some playing time. He's a free agent after this year and maybe if KC doesn't keep him, maybe he can come down to Houston (closer to home). If you want something a little better than what I've given you, let me know.

Henry,
Actually she calmly walked into the house and in her best 5yr old "matter of fact" voice said "Daddy there's a big snake in the front yard". I figured it was probably a black snake or a king snake and went to take a look. When I saw what it was damn near pooped myself trying to find something with which to decapitate it. Ethelyn,
I am aware that you are his momma. I used to read on the old board but didn't participate too much after I moved to this BB. I couldn't believe the way you were treated over there. I'm certain you'll be given proper respect over here and not just because you are a player's mother. I think everyone (except Packfan) is shown respect on this board. |

Well when you deal with a public figure :D like Mikhael is, you get some ridicule, but that was ridiculous. Someone on this BB asked me how I could stand it. I guess you have to be a parent to fully understand, but I appreciate your being candid.
Do you know what happened to the other BB or what I need to do to get Lurker removed from under my name? Lurker sounds so sinister.
