Mock (2/24/13)
Trying to go a more unconventional route here. I'm going to try to mock players to the Chiefs that I haven't once seen suggested or mocked.
Assumptions: 1. The Chiefs resign Bowe, Albert, and Colquitt, and let Dorsey walk. 2. Quinn and Hillis are out. Cassel is cut. Tyson Jackson stays on board, at reduced salary. 4. The team trades its 3rd to the Eagles for Nick Foles and declare him the man going forward. Direckshun tears his hair out. 5. The Chiefs land DE/DT Chris Canty. 6. They get two compensatory picks, an extra third (Carr) and a 6th (Richardson). On with the show: 1. OLB Bjoern Werner, Florida State Again, the objective is to locate players in this mock who are never mocked to the Chiefs, yet would fit in our schemes and justify the pick. I have Werner as the #2 player in this draft, and the Chiefs have long needed an effective rotation at OLB ever since they switched to this scheme. Wade Phillips has a brilliant rotation in Houston at OLB, and has multiple packages where he gets all three players on the field. I believe the same could be said of Werner. That said, I want to put one qualification here: Werner needs to run well at the Combine. Right now I think he's more of a 4-3 guy, but if he runs well, he's a great 3-4 option. 2. ILB Alec Ogletree, Georgia Ogletree will probably fall out of the first, but I like him a lot at the top of the 2nd. One of the worst holes on the Chiefs is at the ILB position, where they have only 1 reputable player on the roster. Ogletree is a solid thumper. 3. WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech Patton's looked really good at the Combine today, and I believe he has starter upside. 4. TE Travis Kelce, Cincinnati I like players that have NFL blood in their families. Kelce's brother is a stud guard for the Eagles, and I mocked his brother several times to the Chiefs as a center. Kelce has pretty solid hands for a larger TE, and mostly he would provide valuable depth whenever Moeaki goes out with injury again. 5. DE Spencer Nealy, Texas A&M This is a measurables thing more than anything. I love Nealy's size (6'5", 275 lbs) and his ability to get into the backfield. The Chiefs have a good starting combo in Canty and Jackson, but they badly need depth. 6. CB Sanders Commings, Georgia The Chiefs, in this mock scenario, will make do with Javier Arenas for a year. This does however mean they will need more depth. 6. FS Josh Evans, Florida Probably pie in the sky hoping here, that Evans falls this far. But somebody falls every year, so I'm entitled one value pick here in the late rounds. Evans is a really instinctive safety who plays the pass very well with some solid run support of this year's free safeties. Mainly the Chiefs have badly needed a pure free safety, but Evans can play some strong if he has to. 7. QB Brad Sorenson, Southern Utah This is a guy on barely anybody's radar, but he's been on mine. I have a 5th round grade on him but the total lack of buzz enables me to have some fun here and take him with our last pick. Good size (6'4", 230 lbs) and fantastic stats last year. I never saw him play but he's been throwing today at the Combine and has looked pretty good. So here we are. |

i think direckshun is a masochist and secretly likes the abuse ogletree has crazy ****ing talent and was really just coming into his own at the end of season...obviously some issues there but i'd take him in the second a little light for thumper role, i think...but we could move him over whenever dj is done...he has dj level talent, imo, just not the resume

It's designed to be a 100% unconventional draft full of players that I have not once seen on a Chiefs mock this offseason, something that I footnoted at the very top of the OP. That alone will earn it some jeers. |

****ing stupid as shit draft. I'm not even a Chiefs fan and my mock is better than yours with one pick. 1st Round: Geno Smith. You fail and fail hard. Stick to D.C. with your wacko bullshit threads.

It's not a stupid mock IF he is projecting what this stupid franchise will do.
It IS a stupid mock IF he is projecting what he would LIKE it to do. |

At this point, TBH, I'd rather have a guy who might be a little light in the pants and can cover at ILB, than a traditional thumper. The thumper is quickly becoming a 1 down player.
