Today while we BBQ in our backyards and drink our favorite adult beverages while chatting with good friends and family that it was all made possible by those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms -- let us also not forget those that have served and come home to be our neighbors and those that cannot be at home because they are protecting our freedoms abroad -- thank you my fellow veterans for all you have done and a very special thank you to the families that have lost sons/daughters/brothers/sisters/mothers and fathers for your sacrifice is much appreciated by a grateful nation --Happy Memorial Day Everyone

This isn't about veterans, but I think it's just as relevant.
Today, my mom and I went to my grandparents gravesite. They are my dad's parents, but my grandmother died before they divorced, and she was my grandpa's daughter-in-law for 20 years. Her and I go out there every year to put out new flowers. I always take a second to remember one thing about each one. I try to remember something different each year. I just got back a little bit ago from a visitation. I grew up roller skating competitively. We were at the rink everyday. The owners of the rink were an older couple and their son and daughter-in-law. The man passed away several years ago when I was young, so I don't remember him as well. However, the lady was like a grandmother to most of us kids. My brother and I couldn't misbehave during a session, or my mom would surely find out. She passed a couple of days ago. I saw so many people I haven't seen in 10-15 years. Seeing them and visiting with them brought back so many memories. I'm really glad I went, because I almost backed out last minute. One memory in particular I have of her is when my brother fell and broke his arm at the rink. My parents rushed him off to the hospital, but she insisted that I stay there with her. She knew I was little and the focus would be on my brother. She kept me at the rink until my brother got his cast put on and was released from the hospital. While we do remember veterans and people of service on this day (my grandfather was a Navy veteran), it's also important to remember those who may have passed on who had a big influence in your life. |

It happened last year too, IIRC. I think it's just more that people didn't get on the site as much, not as a sign of disrespect. Good video, the pictures cut through me as well. Hope all was well for everyone, special shout out to fellow vets, military, police, firefighters, public servant brotherhood and family of those we've lost. |

Heading to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (pictured) here in an hour or so to visit the gravesite of my Grandfather, who was a Naval Officer during the Korean War.
When I was 9, he taught me how to play golf, and some of my fondest memories of childhood are of being with him on the golf course. So every Memorial Day, I head to the cemetery, and tee up a golf ball in front of his headstone. Here's to the others who have served this country so proudly. Happy Memorial Day to all. |

Thank you to all that have served, past present and future. If not for the sacrifices you have made the rest of us would not have the freedom to act like complete douchebags. God bless America!
