Carl Peterson on NFL Network (Nothing w/ Dante)
This is a previously taped segment and I don't know how old it is, but there is draft coverage on NFL Network and they are getting ready for a sit down with King Carl . If anyone is interested in listening in on a top flight bullchit session be sure to tune in.

Wow, that was boring, hope nobody took the time to tune in. He really just talked about how the personnel department (scouts) works with coaches on evaluating players and rating players for the draft. Lame, but Carl did have what appeared to be an Al Davis like track suit on.

It was kind of interesting. Well, the guy from Pitt anyway.
They spoke to a pro personnel from Pitt who spoke about the dynamics of how the scouts work with coaches and coordinators and told a story how last year they were watching a WR at a workout and Cowher said the guy has great hands. The Scout said, well he better because every pass is going to be contested because he doesn't have speed and can't run routes very well. It raised an interesting point that what a coach sees and the impression the coach gets is different than what the scout saw over a few years and how that has to balance out. Peterson added that when tape is given to the head coach they tell the coach what round they expect the player to fall to so that the coach isn't overwhelmed in trying to make that determination.

Yeah, the guy from Pitt gave a lot better info, I guess I should have clarified that it was Carl that was boring.
Carl did have a good quote in mentioning that in the end it comes down to game tape. He said the game we play (NFL) is on the field and that's what really matters. In essence, the combine helps, but isn't the end all. |
