An interesting trend I noticed
Every Royal batter is batting at a significantly lower average through July than ANY other month except Grudz, Gload and Gathright, and they aren't exactly sparkling. What gives?
Guillen Apr - .192 May - .308 June - .345 July - .154 Butler Apr - .295 May - .233 June - N/A July - .205 Gordon Apr - .306 May - .262 June - .214 July - .194 Dejesus Apr - .341 May - .272 June - .361 July - .258 Teahen Apr - .276 May - .239 June - .252 July - .190 Aviles Apr - N/A May - N/A June - .330 July - .282 Grudzielanek Apr - .294 May - .276 June - .329 July - .303 Gathright Apr - .275 May - .264 June - .203 July - .303 Gload Apr - .296 May - .154 June - .289 July - .286 PS, mlb.com was having trouble with Buck's stats for me, so if someone could post that info, it would be appreciated. Additionally, I excluded Olivo, however he fits the trend, as well. |

I think the answer is that we have played a very good schedule in July. June is the best month for many of the players because we were beating up on the joke that is the National League. We played one series against a team with a good pitching staff(White Sox). This month we get 6 games against not so good teams(Sea, Bal) and the rest of the month we get the best of the AL including 2 series against Tampa, 2 against the White Sox, and one against the Tigers who are playing much better than earlier in the season. It's not surprising the average is down.

Most of it looks like water seeking it's own level. April was kind to the Royals hitters but these things tend to even out.
Buck Apr - .206 May - .300 June - .235 July - .254 Olivo Apr - .232 May - .333 June - .200 July - .174 |

Go there. Now. It's all of the sortable analysis you could want on the Royals. The site has been free all week, but that ends after today. |

No game thread today?
Billy Butler just hit a 3 run HR in the bottom of the 7th to give the Royals a 6-1 lead. It actually dented the foul pole. |

Pretty impressive at bat too. He was down 0-2, then worked a full count. He then proceeded to dent the left field foul pole.

Not only was it a very timely hr, but the at bat itself was outstanding. He battled back with 2 strikes to load the count, fouled a couple off, and then hit a 3 run homer with 2 strikes. Not something we are accustom to seeing from Royal hitters.
