Some Of You May Have Your Wish Come True...
I'm taking a minute out from visiting with the family here in KC to tell you Planeteers, your wish may come true:
For all of you who wanted some of us to stop going to the games, stop buying tickets, and simply put- to stop supporting the Chiefs, so we could send a message to Lamar in the hopes to mitigate a Peterson firing- Well, I sat around chatting with my dad on the eve of Thanksgiving. Of course, it was only natural we would talk about the Chiefs as we have been all our lives. As some of you already know, my father has been a season ticket holder ever since the Texans moved to KC in the sixties. It is because of his undying devotion and love for the team that I too became a resounding Chiefs fan as a child. We talked and talked, and then he dropped the bomb- He indicated he was seriously thinking of dropping his season tickets. He's had it. He simply cannot put up with the antics anymore and is through spending the money on them, only to be disappointed year after year. My heart dropped. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He said he'd been furious with the way CP has handled things in the past few years and is profoundly irked by the sudden display of underachievement by the players. My father, a lifelong Chiefs fan, is now considering giving up the tickets. This may not be shocking to you, but it is to us. So, CP, I hope you're reading this sometime in the future. I hope you're reading this now. This is what has become of the fans in KC. Take a walk. Please. Just pack up your things and get out of Arrowhead. Trust me, we're better off without you. I'm serious, CP- get out! I thought I would never see the day where my father would decide to give up his Chiefs tickets. They were like a child to him, and he would never give up on his children. But, he is now... I can't blame the coaches or the players. I honestly believe they try their best. I believe they work very hard, day in, and day out to be the best football team in the nation. I can't blame you guys, therefore, I have to put blame somewhere else- and it's going to CP. So, CP, just so you know- I'm not asking you to leave, I'm telling you to. There are no more chances. We have too many good players. And quite a few of them are getting up there in age. They don't have but maybe a year or two remaining before they have to leave the field for good. Get out of here now....let us worry about this team. My father is seriously thinking of NOT renewing his season tickets for the first time in his Chief life- it's not because of the players, or the coaches, or the stadium- it's because of the damage you have done. So, I'm telling you now- you're free to go ***** up some other team, but you ain't touching ours- any more.... |

The way things are going, I'm sure a lot of season ticket holders will decline their season tickets for next year.

I wonder if the NFL publishes any kind of statistics on the individual franchises, and the percentage of how many years each team has had the same season ticket holders or season ticket families? You'd have to think that teams like the NY Giants, Chicago Bears, GB Packers, Detroit Lions or Washington Redskins have had families that have had season tickets for 50 or 60 years or more. Next year will be 40 years for my family to have Chiefs tickets. I'm sure lots of families in lots of cities have paid out for season tickets, win or lose, for decades.
The difference between now and the 1980's was the bite on the family budget wasn't nearly so bad in the 80's as it is now. Even in 2004 dollars, the price of a Chiefs season ticket and a parking pass has to be a greater bite into the average family budget than it was back then. The point being is that financially you could ride out bad years a little easier back then. Now paying for Chiefs tickets is a real financial sacrafice for a lot of families, and it's hard to justify coughing up that kind of scratch when they suck and show no inclination to want to improve. I know last year I cut out a lot of other types of entertainment because I had to come up with an extra two or three hundred dollars just to cover the 15% increase King Carl laid on us. A lot of that was not going to Royals games like I used to. Of course that was an easy choice to make with the Royals taking the gas pipe all year. Still, it's going to hurt forking up all that dough again next year when the Chiefs need help in so many different areas. I also think if King Carl and Grandpa Dick do stay another year, they're just going to ride out the string, and laugh all the way to the bank. Then it'll be the next clown with a "five year plan" coming in. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Geez Louise...I just depressed myself. Think I need a Saturday Night Bracer!!! |
