Rays pitcher Alex Cobb had 13 Ks in 4.2 IP
However, he's in line to lose on a balk and just got pulled. First time all season a Rays starting pitcher didn't go at least 5 IP

The go ahead run was a batter who reached first on a wild pitch strike out, stole 2nd and 3rd, and then got balked home.

Not sure how noteworthy this is, but its the first time in Major League history a pitcher had 13 K in less than 5 innings.

Threw 117 pitches too. That's impressive for 4.2 innings.

Impressive? In a sense.
Yes, he struck out all those batters in under five innings, but he also through nearly 120 pitches, put a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on his arm, and pretty much screwed their bullpen due to his high pitch count and having to be pulled early. Sometimes it's better to pitch to contact, spot your pitches, and let your defense play behind you. If you happen to rack up some K's along the way, great! There's a reason the best pitchers in baseball don't typically strike out 15-20 a game . . . . they know how to pitch. |

But the point remains the same; use your defense behind you and don't kill your bullpen. |

Strikouts are overrated. Ultimately its jus another out. What difference does it make if its a strikeout or a throw out? Plus, strikeout pitchers tend to throw more pitches obviously.

Someone clearly doesn't know about/believe in FIP.

Getting an out while a batter doesn't make any contact is sorta huge. Prevents a sacrifice or error.
