Actress Natasha Richardson reportedly brain dead after ski accident
If this story is true it's not only very sad but very scary. I had never heard of the syndrome that might be the cause of her becoming fatally ill. I'm so sorry for her family.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/03172009...ead_160027.htm http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thed...ing-to-un.html According to unconfirmed reports, Natasha Richardson has been declared brain dead after a ski accident Monday at a Canadian resort. The New York Post reports that the actress' unnamed friends say she is on life support and is on her way to New York for friends and family to say goodbye. But there's been no official confirmation of this terrible news. A spokesperson at Sacre Coeur Hospital in Montreal, where Richardson, 45, was taken Monday night, would only say Richardson is no longer in Canada. Richardson was feeling fine for nearly an hour Monday after falling on a beginner's run during a private ski lesson. The British-born Richardson was not wearing a ski helmet during ski lesson on the Nansen, a beginners’ run. Richardson was at the bottom of the run, in what is known as the flats, during the midafternoon lesson when she fell and tumbled down the hill. Media reports said her sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12, were with her at the time of the accident. She did not hit anyone or anything before coming to a stop and the ski instructor was by her side within seconds, the spokesperson for Sacre Coeur said. There was no sign of injury, no cut or bleeding. Two ski patrollers helped Richardson but she was able to walk to her room at the resort’s Quintessence Hotel, where she'd been staying since Sunday. Britain's BBC reports that a member of Richardson family, who asked not to be named, said the family was "very distressed." We pray that this report of her being brain dead is not true and that Natasha, a terrific actress, wonderful mother and loving wife, will be OK. Last edited by memyselfI; 03-17-2009 at 08:33 PM.. |

Sorry, it was actually discussed in a different article. It's called 'talk and die syndrome' and apparently it can happen after a seemingly innocuous injury.

it's not that uncommon to be ok for a short while afterward and then degrade
happened to a girl who got hit by a hockey puck in columbus a few years ago. she walked out with her family but ended up dying (which is why the nets are in place today) |

Anderson Cooper just said that Ms. Richardson is a friend of his. I imagine that he'd have some of the most up to date information on her condition.

It's not a syndrome, it's called a cerebral hemorrhage.

I had a severe brain injury and walked around for 6 months without knowing it. Then it all caught up to me and I went into a seizure. Luckily, I came out of everything ok. But if I get an odd headache or ringing in my ears I get a little spooked.

I remember somebody writing lyrics sang by the deceased Sonny Bono and whichever Kennedy it was that died in a skiing accident around the same time, set to the music of "I've Got You Babe." It was pretty ****ed up, but funny nonetheless.
