Will Charles hold out for a better contract?
Jamal is going to be paid a paltry $2.5 million in 2014. Thats not a typo. $2.5 million. One of the best running backs with 2-3 years left of prime time in his career..........I'm sure his agent is whispering in his ear. The Chiefs know its an insulting salary to pay one of the best RB's in the league.
You can say he signed it, play the contract out. But, its the real world. NFL RB's that hold out always, always get their money. The template is clear. If Charles would set out a year, he loses $2.5 Million. You think he doesn't make that up in a new contract next year. Anyone want to bet that the Chiefs give Charles a new contract this off season to avoid a nasty contract fight? |

What was he paid in upfront signing bonus money and would he have to pay that back if he did hold out?

It would be smart, unload some of the dead weight on this team and make Charles and Smith a priority. It doesnt look like Dorsey is sleeping much these days, I think losing that playoff game left as bad a taste in his mouth as it did ours.

Tell me about a NFL RB that played under a bad contract in their prime? I'll wait....

I caught a little bit of Kietzman on this. He had the Chiefs signing Alex & Jamaal to new deals. Then booting Flowers.Too much $s for a nickleback. Maybe he's after new offseason callers

Sitting out this season wouldnt be smart, next season I think it would benefit him more. It would be smart for the Dorsey to hand him a nice shiny new contract though. Money wise I dont know what though.

He could try, but it is becoming more evident in the NFL quality running backs are not hard to find...take Charles a third round pick...his back up who played well in a playoff game as a rookie also a third round pick. The Browns/Colts trade proved this season that teams overvalue running backs. Of the top five running backs this season only one was a first round pick.
If he can get it...go for it, but with all the holes and other cap issues the Chiefs have and new deal will have to be cap friendly. |
