Johnny Depp to Become Dr. Seuss
Johnny Depp to Become Dr. Seuss for Illumination and Universal
The star will also produce the live action feature inspired by the life of the classic children's book author. Oh, the places he'll go! It's almost too perfect: Johnny Depp as Dr. Seuss. Illumination Entertainment and Infinitum Nihil are developing a live-action movie about the life of classic children's author and illustrator Dr. Seuss (aka Theodor Geisel). Depp will produce the project with the potential to star as Seuss, and Universal Pictures will distribute. Keith Bunin (In Treatment) has been hired to write the screenplay. Depp is producing with Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski, Illumination's Christopher Meledandri and David Kennedy. |

I don't think he directed Willy Wonka. Not certain, but I don't think he produced it either.
Direct your ire at Tim Burton.

Depp was good in Blow, and maybe the first Pirates movie. I'm not a huge fan.

If you like the original, you'll hate the new one.

Huh.....how is he all that much different than the original Wonka? Seen them both and the biggest difference I noticed in the two was the different Oompa Loompa songs.
Original seemed more dry humor devious type, Depp seemed more straight up wacko, and he smiled all the time...thats about all I can see as different in the character. |

I thought he did a good job as Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I've enjoyed most of his stuff but Gene Wilder was much better at the role of Willy Wonka than Depp was. |

Not a fan of him personally, but he's a hell of an actor. One of the best of our generation IMO...his range and scope is amazing.
