eMachines
I'm thinking about getting another pc when my tax refund check comes in.
Does anyone have an eMachine? Here's what I'm looking into: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...3A3951%3A41937 |

Many e-machines are total pieces of crap and cannot be upgraded.
You were warned.

If you are going to spend almost $600 on a new computer, dont buy an Emachine. At least go buy a Dell or Gateway. Or heck, have someone build one for you.

They were pretty crappy 4-5 years ago but have come a long way in improving their product and actually have better service for home customers than Dell if you need it.

I'm not saying to go Dell rather than eMachines, but after some of the horror stories I've heard about the eMachines non-standard BIOS, I'd be vary wary. |

There also seem to be plenty of people on this forum alone who could help with any questions and make sure you don't order incompatible products (like a Pentium processor and an AMD motherboard)! What I usually do is first determine what the system use will be. From there, you can prioritize which components should be of higher quality and start shopping. Pretty much just make a list of all the parts you need, then start shopping piece by piece. Example Processor & Cooler Motherboard RAM HDD CDRW/DVD/etc. Case & Power Supply Video Card Ethernet / Modem / Audio (I usually get a motherboard with these built-in as I'm not a big audio guy) Seriously, there really is not all that much to it. Motherboards all come with cables needed. |

The only thing that takes any effort is formating the HD and installing the OS (which is still pretty easy). Picking out the correct parts is the other thing, but all you would have to do is post it here and im sure you could get plenty of help. |
