Going for the Touchdown

I feel their was no decision to make here. The Chiefs have a strong running game. They are inside the one yard line. Their chances I would estimate at 75/25 of scoring a touchdown in this situation. If you kick the field goal the chances of the Chiefs winning are only 50/50. I can not see how anyone can figure they should have kicked the field goal. I would have supported the decision regardless of the outcome. Surely a segment on here would have ripped DV, but I can not see their logic in ripping him. You need to make the decision that gives your team the best chance of winning the game and clearly that was going for the touchdown.

Anyone really think going for the field goal would have been the decision to make? I can not see it.

I agree with you 100%

Where the ball was, it was less than half a yard. You gotta figure that your best odds are to run the ball in.

If you can't move the ball 1 yd you don't deserve to win, however I still can't believe he went for it.

My feeling was that we should not have gone for it.

Not because I didn't believe that we could punch it in with LJ, but rather, because I had no faith in Squanders to make the right call.

I had visions of an incomplete pass as time expired.

I am happier than a pig in shit that I was wrong.

Well I feel the same way. Maybe it is because we are old and have lost our nerve. But VD gambled our whole season on one play. And it was a play that we had failed miserably on the week before. I'm sure all the LJ haters remember that. VD doesn't really have anything on the line like us longtime dumbasses do. He'll waltz away after this season. He has nothing to lose. Dumbass Randy Cross kept saying a quick pass, a quick pass. I'm thinking if we pass we are done. As Woody Hayes once pointed out, when you pass, three things can happen and two of them are bad. While Sidewinder was thinking incomplete pass, I was thinking QB sack just like last week. Woody Hayes was wrong. When you pass, 4 things can happen, and three of them are bad. He forgot about the QB sack.

It's easy to say that in hindsight. Had they not made the TD, there would be two dozen threads about how dumb Vermeil and Saunders are, and other such opinions.

It was an incredibly ballsy call. 99.9% of the time, coaches call for the field goal in that situation. Less of a risk to play the percentages, and take your chances in overtime.

Like I said, it's easy to say that was the call to make. But if we're sitting here 4-4 because LJ couldn't punch it into the endzone, damned near every one of us would be calling for the heads of this coaching staff.

Huevos gigantos.

That decision, and the success of the play notwithstanding, I still can't wait for this team to be Dickless.

Dick "BALLS" Vermeil.

Marty would have kicked the FG.

Uhh, yikes?

I just hope that this was the play and the game that shakes us out of this psuedo-funk the team seems to have been stuck in.

I know you have said this for a long time, maybe from the beginning, I have definitely joined the dump DV and entire coaching staff bandwagon. Other than o-line coach I don't really want any coach back next year.

My sentiments exactly.

Will Solari stay on if everyone else is canned.

And yes, I have never liked Dick.

I can honestly say I did call for going for it before the play, not in hindsight. ( See the game thread.) I can guarantee you that I would not have been one of the ones calling for the heads of the coaching staff if the Chiefs had not scored. I can not see how many people would have other than the all-anti posters. It was the right decision either way.

Had the Chiefs kicked the FG and then lost in OT I would have been screaming at the top of my lungs!!!!!

Though you might be right, I know both my son, daughter and I were screaming for them to go for it and not kick the field goal. I even remember saying out loud that I would rather lose than kick the field goal under these circumstances.

I totally agree with Vlad. I would rather lose than kick the FG under these circumstance. You gotta go with the odds and your chances of scoring from inside the one are clearly higher than going into OT...especially the way the Raiders were moving the ball.

I would have kicked it. I MIGHT have thrown a quick slant if I didn't want to try the figgie first.

I think it was a horrible call. We've seen LJ get stuffed on that exact type of play on that very same situation more than once this year. Add to that the fact that LJ has been putting the ball on the ground and it's a stupid call that happened to work out. Balls had very little to do with it IMO.
