We are going to be coming into the Northern Georgia area for vacation at the end of this week. We have purchased tickets for the Braves game on Thursday. Do you know what time the gates open up for the people to be let in and where the best place to park would be?

I live in Dallas GA which is about 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta. The gates open 3 hours before the first pitch. If you get there early there is plenty of parking around the stadium. If you cant get there early plan on taking MARTA (the rapid transit system) or you can park in a satellite lot and walk for a while.

BKKCOH,

My wife is a Braves fan and we go to a game each month (usually). I'll warn you ahead of time, the prices at the ballpark are pretty steep. You're allowed to bring food and bottled water/coke. If the coke is in a can, they confiscate it.

The game on Thursday at 7:35 - the doors should be opened up about 3 hours prior to gametime.

The best place to park? Hard to explain, unless you're really familiar with the area. Since you're coming in from out of town, I would recommend Marta. I believe they have a drop off at the stadium. Driving to the stadium and driving out from the stadium is a big challenge, even for those that live here in Atlanta. They setup detours all around that prevent easy access to the stadium from North Georgia. And, it's really easy to get turned around, if you're not familiar with the area.

My wife and I do drive every time we go to a Braves' game, but we actually have to drive south of the stadium and then turn back around and drive north in order to access the easiest route to the parking lot that we desire. It's right across from the stadium, if you're wondering. It's $10 for parking there.

If you're familiar with the area and want more specific info - let me know. And, I'll do my best to give you directions to the parking lot that my wife and I normally use.

We are planning on making it an entire day in Atlanta the day of the game. Is the stadium situated around a lot of other things to do?

It all depends on what you like to do. There is a Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Café. You can go to CNN Center and take a tour.

Do you like Cajun food?

Atlanta has a Pappadeaux restaurant that is really good - I believe it originated in the Houston area.

Also, Houstons is in the Atlanta area and I've eaten there.

Other than that, I haven't been to Atlanta in 2-3 years so my memory isn't fresh....

Iron Chef,

I live just outside of Atlanta in Powder Springs. I'm about 15-20 minutes from the stadium (all highway driving).

Where do I watch the games? I'm assuming that you're talking about Chiefs' games, correct? If so, I normally go to Sidelines - a sports bar in Marietta. I used to go to a Chiefs-Packers bar called Dr. Munchies, until it went out of business a few years ago.

Uh, bkkcoh,

I agree with IC, the CNN center, Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, Centennial Olympic Park, and the Coke Headquarters are all pretty close to the stadium. But, a word of caution to you: the surrounding area that you're looking to "hang out" in isn't the safest place to be at night. The whole area around the stadium used to be nothing but a haven for drug trafficking and such.

My words of advice to you would be to do all of your visiting to these surrounding areas in the daytime, prior to the game. You might enjoy them more, if you do.

IC,

No, the one I normally go to is on Windy Hill Rd. It's in a shopping center right next to a Taco Mac. But, I think I've driven by the Sidelines at TownCenter a couple of times. I don't go up that way much. It wouldn't be too far to go, though, if you were going to organize a Chiefs outting for north Georgia residents.

Put me on your list!!

bkkcoh, If you can get rid of the kids one evening, I suggest you make it a point to go to the Gold Club. I hear there's a real good chance you'll run in to some pro athletes.
