Something to pass the time...

Here are the rules:

You have to use this mock draft. http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009.php

You are allowed to make one FA signing from this list. http://www.footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html

Put together your mock offseason. 1 FA and the first 3 rounds. If you want to get creative and put trades in they have to be explained and realistic. If you say that the 49ers are going to trade up to the #3 spot, then you have to explain what they gave up and who they traded up to draft.

FA Signing - Terrell Suggs DE

I'll be stupid and actually say that the 49ers need to grab an OT in this draft. They're at #8 and they need to get ahead of the Bengals and Raiders to get one of the top 3 OTs. They give up the #8, #42 and #73 for our #3 and #98. They take Michael Oher at #3. (It doesn't really fit the draft value chart perfectly....but screw it)

2009 Draft.

8. Taylor Mays/S/USC
34. George Selvie/DE/South Florida
42. Herman Johnson/G/LSU
67. Dannell Ellerbe/ILB/Georgia
73. Fenuki Tupou/OT/Oregon

Against the grain with not taking a QB huh?

I am not positive Balt. will let Suggs walk, if he does and we dont' attempt to snatch him up, I'll be pissed. Instant upgrade on defense.

I'm not really going against the grain. I'm using the mock draft above which has Stafford going #1 and none of the other QBs are coming out (at least in the mock draft). Therefor....there is no QB to take.

Yep...you have to use that mock. If someone went in that mock before our pick.....then you can't pick him obviously. It's something to pass the time at work.....

True enough, weak draft class for QB's.

I like George Selvie, even though I haven't seen as much on him as some others.

1 - FA - Suggs (OLB)

Draft day trade with the Lions. Lions get #3 pick, KC gets 25th, 33rd, 65th.

25. Clint Stintim (OLB)
33. BJ Raj (NT) (KC is moving to a 3-4 in case you didn't notice).
34. Mack (C)
65. Highest rated WR.
67. Boone (ROT).
4th round - Egboh (DE).

Who else as far as pass rushers or talented DE's will be available for FA? I know of Suggs and Peppers, anyone else that might be a poor mans version of one of these two. I really like the idea of picking up Orakpo and Suggs and then Mack in the second. I just wonder if we shouldn't pickup a MLB in the third round and give Herbie or Richardson a legit shot at the RT position

We drafted Mitchell in the 2nd and look how he turned out? Now he's getting paid more than he deserves. What makes you think that a 3rd round MLB would be a good pick?

I went ahead and restructured Larry Johnson's deal after telling him his role would be limited and this is his chance out. Traded him to Cincinnati for their 3rd round choice.

Here we go...

FA: Vilma

1st - Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest

2nd - George Selvie, DE, South Florida

3rd - Shonn Greene, RB, Iowa

3rd (from Cinci) - Fenuki Tupou, OT, Oregon

4th - Eric Wood, C, Louisville (He wasn't taken by the end of the 3rd in this mock. I figured the Chiefs would have a good shot at him.)

All should be able to become instant starters for this team. If not immediate upgrades.

You depth chart it out...

I'll play.

Using the updated Walter's mock from December 25th.

They still just have one QB in the first round, and he (Stafford) is gone at #1.

My FA pick-up under this scenario would be Cassel from NE.

Trade down from #3 with Philly for #18, #29, and #50. (the point chart doesn't quite match up, but what the heck)

#18 Spikes ILB Florida
#29 Hardy DE Georgia
#34 Cushing OLB USC (it shows him going at #33 so maybe a slight trade up would be needed to grab him here)
#50 Johnson G LSU
#67 Caldwell C Alabama
