Upcoming Military Robot Could Feed on Dead Bodies

It could be a combination of 19th-century mechanics, 21st-century technology — and a 20th-century horror movie.
A Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,...0:b26413028:z0

The advantages to the military are that the robot would be extremely flexible in fuel sources and could roam on its own for months, even years, without having to be refueled or serviced.

That is what I was thinking ... badly wounded, incapable of fending of a robot intent upon "refueling" on your still sensitive parts ... ouch.

So we can build war machines that gulp up any organic material around (sounds like a bad idea already) but we can't build a ****ing economic electric ****ing car?

I smell a ra-....ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzt! AH! I mean I'm voicing the combustable part of my soul screaming out to how much of a shitbag idea this is...

Seriously though, these science guys need to take just a little, baby step back from the idea of feeding dead bodies to their new robots. Think about this for just a second, science guys ... you are feeding dead bodies to your robots.

Not meaning to be insensitve, but you might be able to save enough on burials to actually pay for the robots.

Please forgive me if I've misunderstood here, Mr. Rain Man ... but are you suggesting that we ask the bereaved something like ... "Mrs. Jones, I know this is a very difficult time, very difficult indeed. But we need to make some plans. Take your time. Now, would you prefer mausoleum interment for your husband, cremation, or would you prefer him to be eaten by robots?"

Yeah...I can hardly see anything that could possibly go wrong with that.

Seriously, though, just because something can be made, doesn't always mean it should be made.

How else are we going to know if it can be done unless we actually do it?
