Cottam
Apologize if this has been covered elsewhere.
I see that Ryan is listed as the first team TE on the depth chart right now. Can anyone give some insight on how Cottam did at camp? What is the book on him, if there is one? I don't recall much being written about him through camp and wondered if his playing time wouldn't be more than that of a second-team player. How are the two in blocking, is that why Ryan is listed first? |

I wasn't happy about Gonzalez getting traded. But this explanation makes me feel more comfortable with the decision. |

Cottam is a HUGE disappointment. I was so excited about the kid too.
Huge and fast with what was supposed to be good hands. The starting job was basically his to lose and that is exactly what he did. |

I was hoping he would develop into someone that could contribute and not just hold a roster spot. The guy is HUGE and has a 4.6 40. I realize his college career was marred by injury but the guy has the athletic ability to become a somebody in the league. He pissed it down his pant leg this season though. Hopefully he learns a thing or two and comes into camp next season ready to be a monster. |

Ryan is listed first because:
1. He can block better than Cottam. and 2. Haley dialed up a seam route for him in the Rams game and it ended up being one of the better passing plays of the preseason. Ryan isn't going to make anyone forget about TG but I think he's going to turn out better than most expected. |

Cottam can't block or get open apparently.

Cottam sucks.
It's Pioli's fault. If he'd have used a 5th rounder on Meredith, Cottam would be awesome by now. |

Thanks for the thoughts. I hope Ryan is a good blocker after all...

There was some criticism about Cottom's height being a detriment because he isn't able to go low and bend his knees well enough to block. Add to that the fact that he has been real inconsistent catching the ball and you have a guy who isn't looking like he's going anywhere fast...
