Ski boat enthusiasts?

I just became a Ski boat owner, any other enthusiasts out there?

I bought a wakeboard boat, I can't wait to spend the summer dragging my 2 teenage boys around the lake.

I found a great deal on a 2005 Malibu VLX Picking it up on Friday!

Grew up water skiing. I can still get up on one ski (well I could before I f'd my finger up). You'll have a blast and the kids will form memories that will last a lifetime.

I grew up skiing as well, I remember how much I loved it. Probably my favorite memories of time spent with my father was waterskiing at the family place in Eastern WA.

I grew up skiing. I saved up for a boat once. Then my wife decided she wanted a diamond.

I grew up living on a lake. Ski boat in my back yard. It cost me my professional football career. I could have been an NFL caliber QB, but during my junior year, I decided that tooling around in my boat, skiing all day, picking up bimbos at the dock was a lot more appealing than showing up for two-a-days.

I could have been a contender!

Okay, I actually sucked at football, and I played D-end, not QB. But the rest is true.

Looked it up, nice boat.
Didn’t say what motor it has but the options for that year were a 330 Horse and a 505 Horse motor so I’d assume the 330 Horse is a small block V-8 and the 505 Horse is a big block.
When you go to look at it get down and look closely at the engine block a couple of inches above the oil pan. Look both sides of the block from front to back and what you’re looking for is any crack at all. It might appear as a thin line with a little rust along it. This means that the motor wasn’t properly winterized, some water was left in the block, it froze, expanded and it cracked the block.
Go ahead, ask me how I know.

This is partly how I got a good deal on the boat, the previous owner let the block crack, so the boat was engineless, my $5,000 deposit funded the new Indmar Monsoon 340, after the new engine is installed (which it is now) we will do sea trials (Friday) and I will either get my deposit back if the boat is not satisfactory, or take it home that day. I fully expect the dealer (Bakes marine) to do a fine job on the motor install, the engine will also be warranted for 2 years. apparently they did not want to fund the engine install because sales are slow right now.

I'm pretty excited about the boat, I really hope there are no problems that arise during sea trials.

Sounds like you scored then. You get a deal on the boat and a fresh motor. Hard to beat that.

I raised my kids water skiing, we have some great family memories from it, that always come up at get togethers. You will be glad you did, just be safe as there are always plenty of idiots on the public waterways.

It is a buyers market on boats right now, how big is the Malibu? We had 7 boats, and I was the poster child for "1 foot itus."

The last one was by far the nicest, you might enjoy this thread.

Yeah that one cured me of boats for a while. I found your post about broken blocks, after making mine, we both had the same experience. What was your deal?

I was between car toys, so I spent about $4 grand hopping that thing up, the quest for 70, really stupid of me. The guy that bought it, is still thrilled with it, last time he called me.

It was the only one I ever lost money on.

I’ve got a good friend that’s been working on an Imp with a 5.7 SBC engine and it’s been one thing after another for him.
The cracked block was actually about three years ago. After fixing that it’s been hull problems. He thinks the trailer may be tearing it up since it wasn’t made for his boat and it’s right where the center rollers are that the hull keeps cracking.

OMG! That would be bad, never have experienced any hull problems.

Speaking of IMPs, I bought a basket case once. It was a very early I/O, that was basically an outboard, broken down and laid over, with the engine part inside. Had lots of fun and made $$ on it when I broomed it.
