Because they only added LT for the name value and ticket sales. He's also a better fit as a 3rd down back, and they have Shonn Greene to fill in the first 2 downs where TJ excels.

The real question is what happens to Leon Washington. Either he's more injured than they let on or they're concentrating on him more as a returner/gadget player.

Tomlinson isn't a good receiver anymore, so he isn't really taking on Washington's role. Washington has health concerns and even before he got hurt the Jets never really used him a ton. He'll still be their returner and screen back, which is what he was mostly doing before.

The Jets didn't want him back because Jones won't go down without a fight when it comes to being the starter there. For whatever reason they didn't want the competition and they brought in LT to be a backup- period. There would be no controversy with LT and Greene. Not saying Jones isn't a team player, but I bet he goes into next year with a chip on his shoulder to prove he's still got it. And he would have did that regardless of which team he signed for.
