Fisher to sign $35M deal

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/S...ar-deal-011712

The St. Louis Rams are set to make Jeff Fisher the NFL's second-highest paid coach, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Fisher, who chose the Rams over the Miami Dolphins Friday, will sign a five-year contract worth about $35 million before his formal introduction at a 2:00pm ET news conference Tuesday.

His yearly salary of about $7 million is second only to Bill Belichick's $7.5 million, and tied with the Redskins' Mike Shanahan.

The 53-year-old, who did not coach this season after 17 years with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, will only be given the title of head coach.

However, he reportedly will be involved in the ongoing search for a general manager, and is expected to have significant input on personnel decisions.

According to the NFL Network, Gregg Williams will leave the Saints to become Fisher's defensive coordinator, while Brian Schottenheimer, formerly of the Jets, is the leading contender to become the Rams' offensive coordinator.

Williams' contract was up in New Orleans, and just last week he had referred to Fisher as his "best friend in coaching."

Fisher is also expected to interview former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson for the offensive coordinator job, according to ESPN.

I really don't get this. The guy had 17 years of stability, a #1 draft pick QB who wasn't a bust (McNair), and he didn't bring home a Lombardi. In 17 years the odds are that any average coach will make it to at least one Super Bowl just by random luck, and that's what he did. Way to shoot towards average, St. Louis.

So Romeo has had far less opportunity to be HC and is 11 years older? Seems like a fantastic hire.

I'm going to back Romeo, but I'd prefer that they roll the dice and bring in a guy who could be great. I think Cleveland already proved that Crennel is not the next Lombardi.

I really liked the philosophy of the Haley hire. It may not have worked out like we wanted, but it was a good bet. I wish they'd do it again.

He did not have stability for 17 years once the owner started meddling.

Said it several times: Fisher should be judged on what he did during his career with McNair and nothing else.

He would have won at least one Super Bowl if he hadn't run into 1. The Greatest Offense Ever and 2. The Greatest Defense Ever.

So in other words, he would've won a Super Bowl if there wasn't a better team out there that year. And every other year.

I don't know the extent to which the owner meddled, so I can't comment on that. I understand it happened on the Vince Young pick, but did it happen consistently?

As soon as he forced VY on Fisher, stability was gone.

Since 2006, Jeff Fisher has a 14-18 record with anyone other than Young starting at QB. With Vince Young at the helm, Fisher and the Titans are 26-9.

Okay.

Air Mcnair was an incredible college prospect with game changing potential. Fisher turned him into a game manager and refused to give him any weapons on the outside and relied on a running game. Had a better smarter coach taken advantage of McNair's talents, the Titans would have been far more successful in the post-season. Not only that, but since Fisher rarely gave him any good protection he was often injured from taking a ridiculous amount of hits.

As for Vince Young... lol. Vince Young as a starter = 30-18

Fisher kept starting Kerry Collins over Young. Collins as a starter under Fisher = 15-17

Remember 2009 when his 'meddling' owner forced him to change QB's and the team went from 0-6 with Collins to 8-2 with Young? I bet fisher was pissed since he was trying really hard to get fired, an action you condemn Haley for but give Fisher a pass on.
