Power Rankings Roundup - Week 6

I tried this out a week ago, and people seemed to like it. So, here's a quick summary of how the AFCW looks in terms of perceived team rankings this week.

Over time, I might try and put together some charts that plot power rankings over time or something like that. Once all the data is in there, it's pretty easy to work with. Just let me know if this is interesting or if no one cares.

Also, I have data for everyone, so let me know if anyone's interested in other divisions or anything like that.

it would be interesting to see the teams we've played and how they move over time...

Definitely do-able. Just need to get the data all entered in.

I'll get through it eventually, but if anyone's fast at typing in Excel and wants to help, shoot me a PM.

I got all of the data entered last night that I could find (still missing some from early weeks from places that don't archive), but here ya go.

Dotted lines = next three opponents
Big dots = when we played them

It's actually kind of cool to look at. Not surprisingly, every team takes a dip after they lose to us. According to general opinion, the Titans game was our toughest of the season - right up there with the Cowboys. The Raiders game still isn't EXPECTED to be a challenge, but you know how those things go.

Feel free to ask for other stuff. I'm happy to play with it in other ways as long as it's not TOO time consuming.

that is cool...winning harms your own team's perception, especially early in the season with a small sample size...that titan's win will look better as the season progresses

This is cool. I don't put a lot of stock in the typical "power rankings" articles but it's interesting to see them considered as a field of data points.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Any one of them is just some random guy's opinions, but this is more like a panel (including quantitative methods), so I find it a little more interesting.

Bleacher report shouldn't be on here. I don't care what some kid living in his mom's basement thinks about the NFL. Then again, ESPN is no better.

Yeah, it was tough to decide who to include and who to leave out (and I'm certainly open to discussion about it). I generally went with:

1. NFL.com
2. The networks who air games
3. Other popular sites that come up in the first couple pages for when Googling "NFL power rankings"

The stats sites were tougher. I really just went with sites I've heard of and kicked out a bunch of others that seemed like their rankings were way off.

That really wasn't a knock on you, it was more an insult on CPers in general. I assume there are a lot of basement-dwellers on here.
