LNBS: Can Alex Smith be a Franchise Quarterback?
He has been playing at a high level the last few games.
Was it just the defenses he faced being bad, or is he thinking less and therefore playing faster? He is pushing the ball down the field a lot more. His passes are coming out on time more frequently. He is throwing into tight windows. He is using his mobility as a weapon. His ball placement has been pretty good. I view a "franchise quarterback" as a guy that you can get to championship games with and a guy that gives you a chance to win a superbowl. If you were to ask me a few weeks ago if Alex can be that guy, I'd laugh and discard that notion. Now, I'm not so sure. Have the last few games changed your opinion of Alex? |

Average to terrible his entire career. Chances cant get much closer to 0%. But whether he is or isn't considered a franchise QB you have to imagine he's going to get an extension and be the Chiefs franchise QB for the near future with Daniel and an UDFA backing him up... and that makes me puke. |

He's not Matt Cassel.
He's not Peyton Manning. His only possible value on a championship team would be if you could lock him up long term at a considerable discount relative to a franchise QB so you could invest those resources in other play makers. If you give him a franchise contract and lose other high quality players because of that, he is a salary cap cancer. If the top 5 QB's cap number is x, you need to sign him for 0.3x. |

The elite QBs win almost all of their Super Bowls early in their career. Then they get a fat contract and guess what? No more championships. There's a DIRECT correlation. The only real exception is Peyton Manning. We like to say that the modern NFL revolves around the QB. But it's much, MUCH more than that. It's why it's SO imperative to draft QBs every year. You don't just need an elite QB to win a Super Bowl. You need to find said elite QB BEFORE anybody else knows he's elite. |

Had it not been for the drops, we would have probably won the last game.

And if we had a defense we would be 11-1 right now.

I watched the rerun last night and no doubt. Smith made one errant throw that game. 4 dropped passes of 20+ yards would have won us the game had they not happened. Smith looked as good as any QB could look in that game. |
