That was a bad deal... Brutal conditions there, I think that's part of the draw

I thought the first Sherpas to go up for the year to repair ropes, etc. were some of the best.
I imagine there's several expeditions that now can't attempt the ascent since so many of the experienced Sherpas were lost. I wonder what kind of jack they pull in? How's that old saying go, "You couldn't pay me enough!" RIP

Apparently it just killed the poor third worlders who are only there because they're getting paid. None of the rich tourists that they were carrying up on their backs to give them a cocktail party story were hurt.

I have read a lot about everest over the years, mountaineering is fascinating to me. The area where they were working is pretty dangerous anyway, because the ice constantly changes.

I love mountain climbing/mountaineering and used to have a really strong desire to climb Everest. That has since changed to someday making the base camp trek being good enough. Some of the world's best have died on that mountain. Into Thin Air is a great read (among many others) about the 1996 tragedy.
