When I have the title of NFL GM, I might spend hours upon hours on it, until then enjoy the ride, man. I think it's pretty damn close to who makes the team. IR or not, the point stands that March played well enough to have a roster spot, if he gets cleared to play before the IR deadline.

If he was eligible to return they would of put him on IR after September 8th. As part of a gms job is to know the deadlines of these things!

There is no IR deadline. March is done until 2016.

Here's the rule:

During each season a club will be permitted to return one player from the Reserve/Injured List to its 53-player Active/Inactive List. Such player must have suffered a major football-related injury (defined as an injury that renders the player physically unable to practice or play football for a period of at least six weeks [42 calendar days] from the date that the injury occurred) after reporting to training camp and must have been placed on Reserve/Injured after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the Tuesday after the final roster reduction. A player who is eligible to return must be noted as "Designated for Return" at the time the player is placed on Reserve.

Ok. It used to be that teams had several weeks and could bring the player back. Goodell has changed so many rules, it's hard to keep track of all of them.

True, though I think the IR rule has been "IR and done for the season" for a long time, like even before Goodell. The one player being designated for return only went into effect last season.

I had forgotten March was on IR, I'd say they keep Avant until March is healthy, provided the other WRs are playing well and makes Avant expendable. It's just my best guess at who I see sticking around.

March is on IR for the year and Avant is on a one year deal 😒
