The All -22 and yeah, it all happened again
This team is done most likely. It's done and Reid is the captain of the Titanic hitting the ice burg except the first one didn't do the job so he hit 5 more.

This post is also a reminder of how many damn Alex homers there are. What is the average chiefs fans obsession with overdefending nice guy qbs. Nice doesn't win super bowls, unless it comes with talent to play football.

He's also generous to call his performance good against Denver. We won that game because we had a bazillion turnovers. We were on cruise control on offense

Unfortunately, what he does need is a strong offensive line. Not even top 10.. but not far off. He simply has too much old baggage to ever develop into the fearless gunslinger I hoped he would. As is, the OL he needs must be able to provide balance in the run game. They don't need to open up huge lanes and grant him 150 yds a game.. but how bout 80 or so at a 4 ypc-ish clip? and how bout they be able to pass protect even in times where a D knows we are passing? .. but sadly and admittedly.. he still looks to be a QB that can not thrive unless he has the above things going for him. It's everyone's individual choice whether to hate him for needing what he needs to thrive. It's everyone's individual choice in whether they want to blame him, or blame the weaker areas of the team that are not doing much to support such a QB. It's everyone's individual choice whether to justly allocate blame to a HC that still insists he is the best QB option... or to keep on blaming the player for giving what he's got. If I were Andy Reid, I would do a few things differently. 1. More I-form play-action with (of course) Sherman on the field. 2. Do not forget to give Hunt carries.. but let the PA pass game open things up early on.. then start pounding in more runs. 3. Make it clear to Smith in private that he must work out his (and fellow receivers') issues right away.. and this extends to his own pocket composure. That he is on a short leash to do so.. and the next game is critical to whether he goes out in a last glorious blaze, or finishes things off holding a clipboard. There has to be more to it than this CP concept of wide open targets all over that Smith just refuses to see or throw to. If it were so clear and obvious, there's just no way Smith would still be allowed to go out there week after week. No doubt about the bottom line though.. he DOES need to play better and right now.. or he can and should rightly **** off. |

When Alex opens up the offense, the pass protection improves. This is all on him. We've seen he's capable of doing it. But he just refuses to. And at this point in the career, we have to accept that those aggressive versions of Alex are way in the minority, not the majority. But worst of all, you can defend Alex Smith while acknowledging the last 5 games he's mostly played like complete dogshit. Even you I think see that. But there are so many people who are apologizing for him and refuse to acknowledge his contribution to the problem. Keep in mind that these same people defended Matt cassel for almost every game he was qb. |

Its kind of a myth but it kind of isnt. Coaching staff put a lot of resources in the offensive line and protecting the QB. Kelce chips/blocks more than he should, and on Fishers side no less. They actually bring in a 6th offensive lineman sometimes too and declare him as elgible to line up off Schwartz or Fisher. They do everything they can to give more blockers than they should have to. |

Due to teams prioritizing the run and daring the passing game to make plays that they clearly aren't going to make, KC needs extra beef to block the 8 and 9 man fronts. Which they wouldn't need if the QB would do something to back them off before the last 4 minutes of the goddamn game. |

Beyond that, we'd be arguing more over "the last 5 games".. as at that point.. it becomes simply levels of disappointment. The PIT, NYG, and DAL games were the most troublesome for me.. and in that order. It is these 3 games that disappoint me most. The problem I am having is this. I have always felt that Smith is enough at QB, if he has a strong roster around him. I see the tale of two 5 game splits. The first half, the offense was competent.. and against some quality opponents. Alex responded very well. Better than most would have dared hope for. The second half, the offense as a team was pretty lousy. Poor run blocks, poor pass pro when opponents pinned ears back, bleh playcalls. Alex responded poorly. The 2 things that stand out most are: - a run game and pass pro that went from best in the first half to bottom tier in the second half. - the returned hesitation of Alex as he deals with unfamiliar, young WRs. Was anyone really under the illusion that Alex Smith would thrive with this current offensive support? Maybe Patrick Mahomes really is the answer. Alex is what he is.. a QB that plays well when his supporting cast does. Since that is not happening, he is what he is.. a product of the play around him.. and not a QB that can lift up the misery surrounding him. |

This fan base is bipolar, they rather get rid of good players for good community guys. 1 and done in the play offs or a competing season and most fans are ok with it.

There is no defending him the last few games unless you are a complete moron.
