It was a marching band. Also, they did a re-enactment of some Revolutionary war battle, complete with cannons. Pretty epic...and funny as hell. There's video out there of it.

Awesome work, thanks. So the data actually backs up the OP's superstition. Carol Channing performed and sang in IV. But in the first Superbowl there might have been some female marching band members, but no females singing.

Chiefs with female singer at halftime: 3-0
Chiefs without female singer at halftime: 0-2

Sounds like Miley Cyrus is the favorite for Superbowl 58. Travis might also need to urge Taylor to reconsider her stance at some point.
