I just got back from the day -long party in downtown Houston. Paul Tags was here along with other NFL brass. The word "leaked" out that the team would be called the TEXANS before the official announcement later this evening. The team colors will be RED, BLUE and WHITE and the logo features a skull of a bull with an outline of the state flag and a star where to mark Houston. It looks cool and so do the uniforms. I was concerned that everything would look like the Arena League rip offs but this logo and the uniforms are clean. I'm just glad that they did the RIGHT thing and named the team TEXANS. The state's last pro football team is now named after the first one! Still a Chiefs fan till I die !!

It's good that we have such a high ranking person on the inside. What else was discussed at this meeting and will you be privy to additional meetings of this magnitude?

Yeah, that sounds very cool. I was telling my g/f this morning that the colors would incorporate the state flag. I can't wait to check it out. I may stop by Oshmans & get a hat or shirt tonight. However, like yourself, I'm Chiefs till I die. If the Texans don't end up in the same division as them, I may have to incorporate that whole 2nd favorite team thing that Denise made infamous....

I am watching the whole thing on TV right now. They are saying that the team will most likely be in the AFC. Anyone else hear this?

The team WILL indeed be in the AFC because Dallas and New Orleans are so close and are in the NFC. I asked if anyone knew what division Houston would be in and nobody knew anything except that the Houston team will be an AFC team. The story that's going around now is that the NFL will be divided into 8 divisions with 4 teams each. 4 divisions will be in each conference. The catch is that it looks like that some teams will be moved out of their current divisions. I'd HATE to see KC moved out of the AFC West even if it meant that I was assured of seeing them here in Houston once every year!
Bugsy, EVEN YOU "might" have been able to attend the NFL Party in Downtown Houston - it was a PUBLIC PARTY!!! Though you might have wilted in the heat. |

I've got a (small) second team too. The Texans logo is cool.

TX - you are correct, 4 div of 4 teams is the plan, with the Seahawks going over to the NFC. We should be in the same division as the Donx, Raiders and Chargers. Houston may very well end up in a division with the Titans and Jags.

Morf,
Good News! I'd love it if the TEXANS were the same division as the Titans! Just the chance to beat Bud's Boys is enough for me. More importantly, that would KEEP the Chiefs in the AFC West, where they belong. For awhile there I got to see the Chiefs and Oilers play in the Astrodome just about every year. I think they played each other every year from 1989 through 1994 and all but one was in the Dome. I went to everyone here in Houston and I even flew up to KC for the game when Moon lit the Chiefs up. My favorite was the last Chiefs Playoff win here - over the Oilers. Boy , what a game, what a long time ago! |

TX - Luckily the owners seem to agree that we should stay in the West, it is always filled with heated rivals, plus there isn't a team farther West of us to move into our place.

You know, when I first heard the name a year ago, I hated it. I couldn't stand that someone else would use OUR name. But after reading your posts here, I can appreciate keeping the history alive.
