Meeting your best friend. How?

Consider for a moment your best friend in the world, if you don't count immediate family members such as spouse, sibling, parent, child, etc.

How did you meet that person?

You will be shocked to learn that a poll is forthcoming.

I don't have a single one best friend, I have about 4-5 of them. The summer before my 2nd grade ( 7yrs old, almost 8) and I was walking through the neighborhood with a basketball because I was gonna go shoot baskets at the school which was only about a couple blocks from my house. On the way I saw some kids playing bball but I didn't think they would see me or ask me to play, but they did so I went over there and played all afternoon. Everyone was within a year of age from one another and we all lived in that same area until this day and still are the best of friends, which is 17yrs later.

Nah, no jealousy at all, because I didn't hang out with the girl at all, and we had absolutely nothing in common. However, she had a lot in common with my mom. They liked to go to garage sales together, and they were both into antique collecting and stuff, so they did a lot of that. It was weird for me only in the fact that I never would have guessed that the two of them would become friends, and I knew them in very different contexts. I was glad that my mom had someone to hang out with.

That is a great attitude to have. My girls, called my buddy, the son that I never had, etc. When in reality, we just both liked to Drag Race and drink. Not at the same time, for the most part. But there are some storys.

The person I would consider my best friend and I sat next to each other in a college class together for about a month or so without saying a word to the other. I figured that him and his friend sitting in front of him were a bit stuck up, but later found out that they were actually afraid of me, which became really a good joke after they got to know me. What can I say, I walked around with a psycho look back then.

ya in Lawrence me and my friend were walking through a parking lot to the car after a bar and my friend (drunk and stupid) decided to fuck with 3 guys in a car, well they get out of the car and I'm like "ok, 3 on 2 maybe were gonna throw down....gotta back the friend up even if it's his fault" and then a car full of 4 more guys pulled up, so now it's 7 on the 2 of us and things almost go down, we came "this" close to getting our asses kicked and then I yelled "**** this, let's go to the afterparty!" and one of the guys yelled "ya, **** this let's go **** some chicks!" and they invite us to thier place for an afterparty and we went and had a good time.

On topic, I guess I have 3 or 4 really good friends, all "best friends" and I met 3 of them at a workplace, and 1 was a regular at the same bar I frequented

Met him in 5th grade, became best friends. Best friends throughout high school, went to separate colleges for two years but stayed in touch through phone calls and e-mails... then I transferred schools and we became roommates. Stayed friends throughout... he moved to ST. Louis, I moved to KC, he was best man in my wedding, we still see each other a few times a year and talk a couple of times a week. A friendship of 20 years.

Can you only have one best friend?

I have a friend I met in the first grade. We have been friends, more like brothers every since. We only get together every year or so, he works in DC.

I worked in the military with a couple of guys and as it turns out we live in near proximity. We talk weekly and our families get together frequently.

There is also a group of us, 5 families that I would consider best friends. It includes the two guys and their families above. We have dinner parties every other month or so. When there are events in our families, usually happy events, the group is always among the first to know.

I think I answered my own question, you can have more than one best friend.

Best would indicate, better than any other, right? The others would be good friends, but not best friends.
