If this happens, your opinion of Pioli would be...

OK let's say Pioli is NOT convinced that Cassel is the only QB for us but can't work out a trade UP for RGIII or Luck. He looks at the free agents and decides they are stop gaps at best. SO...

He either trades way DOWN in the first round and picks a QB (slight reach) or he takes a QB in the second round.

Would that significantly change your opinion of Pioli?

No, although the way I constructed the sentence I see how you could read it that way. I would be happier trading down and not taking a QB at all.

In the OP it was a given that Pioli reaches in the 2nd or picks up a mid-round QB. That would not be my preference, but that was the given scenario. I could live with that scenario only if the Chiefs bring in a legitimate FA to compete for the starting job. Under no circumstances do I want to see Cassell competing against Stanzi and a middle round rookie for the starting job.

He makes Cassel look like an All Pro

Actually, I'd rather take Kellen Moore in the 4th-5th than any other QB in the 1st-2nd.

Luck > RG3 > Moore > Everyone else

No worries, you won't be seeing Cassel actually competing with ANYONE for the starting job.

This is all a token gesture to appease the fans.

This franchise made a mistake nearly 30 years ago and have gone so far into their shell afraid to make another that I don't think they remember what the sun looks like. Steve Fuller had 31 starts for KC. Todd Blackledge had 24. Between Doug Hudson (7th round pick in 1987 with one pick) and Brodie Croyle, no QB drafted by the Chiefs got a start. We have used our first round pick on a QB twice in team history.

Pioli making a move for RG3 would be admitting he made a 64 million dollar mistake in Matt Cassel. His ego will not allow him to do that. Pioli contends that Matt Cassel is the guy at QB, and if he actually believes that, theres no way he (in his mind) wastes a 1st rounder, or multiple first rounders + star talent to draft another quarterback.

If he does do that, then its an indictment that he's been full of shit about Matt Cassel the whole time.

Never happen. I dont honestly see Pioli drafting ANY quarterbacks this year. He has his guy in Cassel, and we drafted Stanzi last year.

He will either make at attempt to sign Kyle Orton as competition (roughly translated: 2nd string QB), or he will bring in some scrub free agent or an undrafted free agent QB to fill out the roster.

The only hope for the Chiefs franchise this year is that Scott Pioli keels over while horking down longjohns and bearclaws while fapping to Cassel's Pro Bowl jersey.

I know, right?

I keep trying to wrap my head around this idea that Pioli would rather lose his job in disgrace than to allow the team to move on from Cassell. That is not ego, that is idiocy. But it appears to be the Planet line currently so I guess we go with the flow.

Everybody was correct last year. They took Bulaga because of his ties to Ferentz.

It doesn't make much sense. Especially the "he is afraid to admit he was wrong so he'll keep playing Cassel" stuff. He wasn't afraid to fire Haley.
