Cheap computer combos
Looking to get a cheap DIY kit for my 12 year old since his computer is shot.
I'm looking strongly at this package http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...=Combo.1243268 But would like to see if any of the other computer nerds think any of this list are better http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0%20-%20%24200 |

Honestly, I'd just grab a ram+mobo+cpu combo than go out and get a better case+PSU set separately.
I mean if you really want to cheap out on the case, okay. I'd make sure to get a better quality PSU though. A cheap case will result in a hassle while a cheap PSU can fry your shit. |

Ah a $200 budget changes things.
I mean if you're trying to go on a super cheap rig, I'd say **** it and chance it. Do you happen to have a Frys or Microcenter near by? |

I'd say just get the bundle and research+know neweggs RMA policies well.
Unless you can salvage the optical drive and Hard Drive from the old rig though, you'll end up going over the $200 budget. |

You should be set than.
Since you'll actually be a little under budget, I'd suggest picking up another case fan for the door side to help remove heat and a better heatsink (the OEM heatsinks are loud and suck ass). |

Go with a past generation system that had the nuts. You can find quad core Intels on ebay for less than $50 if you look, and DDR2 RAM and a 775 motherboard can be found with little cost.

Tbh I'd advise all my clients to get an Intel instead. An AMD will do if you're on a extremely limited budget I guess, but they've really dropped the ball in the last few years. |

I would normally say avoid APU's at all cost.
But in this case, where you have a 200 dollar budget, these builds are all actually pretty good. If its me I pick the same bundle you did, but the one dollar cheaper one that comes with the other case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...=Combo.1243259 Its the exact same, except I think the case is just cooler for the Kid. It looks more gamerish, and the one you have chosen reminds me of a 1995 gateway painted black. |
