Gary Oldman signs up for RoboCop
Gary Oldman Joining MGM's 'Robocop' Remake
Gary Oldman has inked a deal to star opposite Joel Kinnaman in MGM’s remake of Robocop. Jose Padilha is directing the film, which is being produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Kinnaman (The Killing) plays the title character, a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer. Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who creates Robocop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation. The production is eyeing a September shoot in Toronto and has a tentative release date of summer 2013. |

I notice they're going to blow him up instead of the ****ed up killing in the original.

I don't know, I'll give it a shot, but IMO, the original cant be topped. Perfect movie and the satire elements are hilarious and on point. Plus, ill bet they make it PG13. Ugh....... It's really hard to replicate the Trademark Verhoven violence in today's movie environment. Look how the Totall Recall remake fell flat.

This movie will suck. Why?
- It's a remake of an 80's classic, a subgenre Hollywood has not yet learned to avoid, despite overwhelming evidence that it should. - Almost every character except Murphy is gone and replaced. Therefore . . . - No Clarence Boddicker. - Officer Lewis, the second most interesting character, has been gender-flopped. - It's been in development hell for 8 years. - It looks like they've replaced all humor with angst. - He's lost all individuality, and now looks like another Batman clone, and finally . . . - February release; the kiss of death. I predict 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, tops. |

I am torn, I like the odes to the original on the design, but they do seem to steal some scenes from batman, aka does it come in black.
We will see how it plays out, him being aware from the start and still having his family is fresh. Hopefully it is R, the robots and and blood and violence together would be awesome.. Maybe get a robocop vs terminator cross over. |
