Waldo pizza is good, but its more than 10 mins from downtown. 20 normally, maybe 30 in rush hour if you drive through the plaza.
Underrated place near downtown is Caddy Shack. Little dive bar, awesome pizza. Minskys is close by, and also has some great pizza. I would normally say Grinders, even if just for the atmosphere, but the last couple times I was there it wasnt as great. If you are going for NY style, that would be the choice - the others are a thicker crust.

Oh, I will never get the appeal of Mannys. Went there a few times when I started working nearby, was far from impressed.
People from my office go there for lunch and the bathroom stalls are packed the rest of the afternoon. If Im getting mexican I usually go to Taqueria Mexico on Rainbow and SW Blvd.

Cannot argue with this, Garozzos is IMHO the best Italian in the city.

I had a friend tip me off a couple of years ago about the Art of Pizza which is close to downtown. If you like NY style pizza it is damn good. The guy that owns it was born and raised in Brooklyn IIRC and he makes everything himself.

Kansas City for being such a good food town is really weak in the Pizza department.
Having said that the best Pizza is in Independence, MO. Square Pizza. |

I covered this earlier, but the original owners of Pappi's sold out a few years ago. It pretty much went to shit after that. Now the same location is a Funhouse Pizza. Pappi's was damn near in my backyard growing up.

Another vote for Waldo and Minsky's here. Garozzo's is great Italian food as well. Cannot go wrong with any of those places.
Last few times we have had Funhouse from Raytown, the crust has been burned and not very good, and they were a jerk to my wife when she was asked about it. Not sure what is going on with them, but we have not been there for a few months because of that.
