Life Living in Phoenix Arizona - Page 7

Me and my wife are planning on moving to Phoenix sometime this year. I was wondering if you could tell me the best places to live there. We are just tired of the weather in Kansas City and want out. We can deal with the blistering heat.

I spent a ton of time in the Mesa/Gilbert area working at ASU East. Unless things have changed in the last couple of years stay away from this area:

4972 S Power Rd
Mesa, AZ 85212

That's the address for a now defunct restaurant. They served great food and had a big eating area outside, but unfortunately, there's a huge cattle operation nearby. It freaking stank to high heaven. I guess it's a good thing it was only cattle and not hogs. I guess the city encroached on the cattle op, but sheesh! They must have been sold on the site when the wind was blowing the stench the other way.

Yea buying when new to an area isn't very smart, especially with the vast space of Phoenix. We rented for almost 2 years before we purchased, only after we explored the whole valley. Keep in mind that people mention specific cities they like or dislike but there really are great areas and bad areas of almost every part of town. So just because someone says no to a specific city, don't rule it entirely out.

You and your wife are near my wife and my age and we also have no kids. If you come to town to look around or want some tips for exploring when looking for a rental online, give me a shout. We rented sight unseen as neither one of us had been to Phoenix before we moved. With the internet, we knew exactly what we were getting and it was a pretty smooth process actually to rent a house before moving and without visiting.

Either way, we like kids. I've met a CPer before when he came to Phoenix and he still lived....in case you are wondering if I'm a axe murderer. I'm not. Neither is my wife.

Then why not Florida? At least you get to go to beaches in the heat.

I'm going into my 4th summer down here. People come down here to visit Disney or the beaches and its always July and August. It's not always that over bearing hot.

It ain't no dry heat.

It gets as hot in KC as it does in Florida in the summer. The only difference is that it will cool off the feels like 100 degree temps for a week or two in the summer.

believe me I love Florida, Clearwater beach is one of my favorite vacation spots.

It's not like he's renting for ten years or something. Renting for a year or two makes sense if your not sure you want to stay in an area long term. You wanna talk putting $ in someone else's pocket ? Try getting out of a house after a year. Yes it's a buyers market in Phx but that also means if your trying to get out of that house after a year, your potential buyer has tons of other options. I generally agree w you, if you know you are in an area you want to be at least mid term.
