Maybe the Amerson thing is Veach's way of telling himself from the beginning that he should just focus his attention to one thing at a time in terms of fixing this defense.
A one-year deal with him is just a band-aid, and it's not a very good band-aid. Perhaps we should have been looking more closely at longer term options. As it is, we're going into next year with a TON of CB needs. Like, a billion dudes are playing on the last year of their contracts. If not to improve that position, we just need BODIES. Period. Tramon Smith is a nice piece. It's a starting point. We need more, though. |

and i’m with you on amerson but he’ll be serviceable for a year. worst case he sucks but highly doubt he’s worse than mitchell and gaines. best case he does well moves on elsewhere and qualifies for the comp pick formula. |

There is just no way that Veach doesn't do a trade to get a good CB. Going into the season with just Fuller, Nelson and Amerson is really risky and asking for trouble.
I really like this team going into next season but just add a good CB. |

I like this guy as I read about him. Seems like a good risk versus reward pick.

I think maybe the coaching staff are higher on Reaser and Lampkin than we realize. I haven't browsed the UDFA thread yet but didn't a couple of decent CB prospects go undrafted? Would be nice to add an extra body that way.

The thing that I like about picks like Smith and McKenzie is it kinda feels like they at least have a chance to exceed expectations in a big way. Most late picks like this, you're just expecting an okay backup at best.
Given that Smith comes from a small school and that McKenzie is changing positions, they have more question marks to their name but I think they also could be starters one day if all comes together right. Much like with LDT coming from Canada. |
