After the positive responses and congratulations on my Retirement thread, the idea came to me that there should be a thread that helps everyone prepare for the eventuality of retirement.

There were many great ideas, comments and great suggestions that came out of the conversation. What I would like to do is put this here as a repository for information for anyone who is:

Ready to retire
Close to retirement
Beginning to plan for retirement

One of the things I came to find out is that no matter how much I had thought I was prepared for retirement, there were still things I had not pondered or prepared for.

So this thread is for all your questions, comments, advice to help others that are close to retirement.

I mean....this board is about a year and a half away from being around for a quarter of a century, and many of us who have been around are there already.

So, please feel free to contribute!

Glided thru my 6th week of cardiac rehab....find myself being able to do things I couldn't about 8 weeks ago.

For some reason the exercise that always seems to kick my butt is the full pedal bicycle...don't know if it is the Program Level they have me on during the exercise or that it is my "small" kryptonite....

Most of the regular programs I can do as a normal routine...I actually do the stair stepper as the last routine because I get into such a zone that my 14 minute time frame is nothing...I actually use it as my "cool down" time frame.

Don't want to intimate that this is all easy now.....it has been tough getting to where I am now, but I do realize my progress and appreciate it.

Very cool. I got my steroid injection into the back this week but don't start PT for a couple of weeks due to the schedule of the PT that everyone wants with 37 years of experience. Considered the best in the greater 6 million population area here.

Yeah....the group is work with i had to wait 2 weeks to get in too. They are sought after in our area....there was one other highly recommended cardiac therapy group that was in Jacksonville but I didn't want to drive 35 minutes each way to do my therapy....the group i am with now is 7 minutes from my house and is right next to the hospital I had my surgery at.

Week 8 begins....

Bicycle ride for 15 minutes at a medium-fast pace....keeping the Watts level at 70

Stair Stepper bicycle ride at a medium-fast pace pace for 15 minutes...and Watts level at 70

Arm pedal only for 15 minutes with Watts at 65

40 leg lifts with a 10 lb weight on each leg...

40 Step Up/Step down for each leg

30 pushups... within 1 minute 30 seconds

Treadmill walk 15 minutes at 7% incline at 2 miles an hour gait.

The focus continues to be more on my cardio.....I have my next test in 2 weeks.

After that I do my Echocardiagram on June 24th.....and see my cardiologist on June 27th.

I just know one thing.....I am glad I did the cardio rehab this time and wish I had been smart enough to do it back in October of 22 when I had my first heart attack.

One last thing to my partners on here.....please make sure you stay on top of your health...be it heart, kidneys, liver, or any other organ necessary for your daily life. I would not wish any of what I am going thru to get myself back in shape on even the worst of my enemies.

And thank you all for listening to me...

Getting past the first couple of workouts is the hardest part.....
