Pioli and Mangini to Browns?

I would not be surprised to see this happen. They both started together in Cleveland and worked together in New England. I bet Mangini ends up there.

http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/11207917

The Cleveland Browns have scheduled an interview Tuesday with fired New York Jets coach Eric Mangini, a person with knowledge of the meeting told the Associated Press.

Mangini, dismissed Monday by the Jets after they collapsed down the stretch and missed the playoffs, will meet with Browns owner Randy Lerner in the New York area, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the interview.

Lerner has also set up an interview for Wednesday with Scott Pioli, New England's vice president of player personnel, the person said.

Pioli and Mangini both began their NFL careers in Cleveland under coach Bill Belichick and spent several seasons together with the Patriots.

Cowher would be a great fit here. He will have complete control -- throw money down on the table -- give the keys to house -- a blank check -- whatever makes him happy.... j/k

Honestly, I can't believe he'll pick Cleveland. They don't have a quarterback -- the Chiefs do. J/M/O

But I'd follow the Parcells story. He loves turning around teams.

Ah, BS. Thigpen needs is a proven quarterback's coach to work with. Besides a few other pieces -- I know some members will debate this -- but the Chiefs are not far off -- The Chiefs Number 1 need >>>> Good Coaches.

These are the same guys that won the Super Bowl in 2007. Coughlin rotated in Mitchell and maybe one other player that was not part of the front seven in 2006. The Giants were a mess.

2006 Giants Defense
Rank: 25th Total Yds
Rank: 28th Passing Yds
Rank: 14th Rushing
Rank: 23rd Sacks same as the Chiefs

Watch my next post -- Then you will understand why Tony Romo sucks right now.

I'm more in tuned with the NFC than I am with some AFC teams. It's one of the reasons I enjoy reading at CP.

Tony Romo steadily declined over the past 2 years. He's starting to over throw just about everyone on the team at one time or another. Sunday's game was no fluke for Romo. He under threw to Roy Williams which got picked. He got stripped of the ball. He fumbled. He forced the ball all over the field trying to make something happen. He got to go to bed or I would have posted his stats.

Eli is far from perfect. Sometimes he's brilliant and sometimes he's not. Google Ernie Accorsi general manager of the Giants. When Accorsi was the Colts general manager, he drafted John Elway with the Number 1 pick. Then you will understand why Accorsi was so determined to see Eli Manning succeed.

Parcells hired Chris Palmer quarterbacks coach to work with Tony Romo. When Parcells left, the Giants hired Palmer away from Dallas. Read Chris Palmer's resume -- The biggest adjustment in Romo & Eli's development was when Palmer arrived.

Resume: http://www.giants.com/team/coach.asp?coach_id=23

This is a transcript: I'm sorry I can not t provide the link. However, this is exactly what Thigpen needs-- a good QB coach.

Quarterbacks Coach Chris Palmer

Q: Will NFL coaches try to come up with new wrinkles to stop Eli Manning?

Palmer: “Eli is exceptional. We had our meeting and he talked about the things that he wanted to improve. He is a hardworking guy. He is well grounded and he knows that it is just the beginning for him. I think he can get better, I think he thinks he can get better, and if those things happen we will have a very, very bright future.”

Q: Now he has the confidence of winning a Super Bowl…

Palmer: “I think he always had the confidence. I think that helped, but we are in a business of what have you done for me lately. I think Eli has both feet on the ground, he is working very, very hard, he is here as often as anybody, he is watching film, so he is not resting on his laurels.”

Q: Has he worked differently this year?

Palmer: “I don’t think he has worked differently. I think he is in a situation where it wasn’t as tedious, our film sessions, as it was a year ago because I think he knows me and I know him better. I think those things make it easier. The fact that the season went on longer and we didn’t have as much time. We really went a month longer than we did a year ago, so from that standpoint he is pulled with a lot of different obligations in the community and stuff like that. He got married, but he is here lifting all the time and he made up the time he missed. I have no qualms that Eli will be ready when the season comes around.”

Q: Less tedious this year in what way?

Palmer: “Film-wise. Last year, we probably spent 13½ hours on film. We probably have spent the same amount of time, but I have a better understanding of him and he has a better understanding of me, so I think there has been more give and take. Last year, I was trying to get inside his head and figuring out what he was all about.”
Q: He said he wanted to add 10 yards to his deep passes this year. Is that just a matter of getting stronger?

Palmer: “I think it is getting all of his mechanics working together. Obviously, he will get stronger. When Eli is in rhythm and he is balanced and he transfers his weight he has a very strong arm.”

Q: How soon would you like to make decisions regarding which of the five quarterbacks you now have will go to training camp?

Palmer: “That is not my decision. I think all five of the quarterbacks have NFL virtues for the position. I enjoy working with them all and at some point I am sure those decisions will be made, but right now whoever is out there I am willing to work with.”

Q: Do you still think the guy that was drafted number one overall is still inside David Carr?

Palmer: “I believe so. I watch him; he is very, very athletic. What people forget, I think my third year in Houston (where he was Carr’s offensive coordinator with the Texans) we were one of six teams offensively that had a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard receiver and a 1,000-yard runner. The next year after the staff was let go in Houston he came out and threw for 68 percent for Gary (Kubiak) and those guys down there. I think he is a talented guy. I think confidence is a factor with all quarterbacks and hopefully we can get him back in the groove where he can come out and help us in the event that Eli can’t play.”

nite... i hope it makes sense -- prob. needs a heavy dose of editing. lol
