In general, are NFL players more athletic than NBA players?

Hootie seems to think Kobe Bryant is stronger than all the cornerbacks and safeties in the NFL, and that LeBron James would be the best NFL player of all time if he played the game. You know, because guys like Tracy McGrady and Stephon Marbury would just dominate as a WR in the NFL. Nobody could cover them.

Again, who is going to guard this guy?

The reason he can't play in the NBA is because he doesn't have a position and he can't shoot.

Assuming he's not reeruned, I'm pretty sure he can catch a football and I'm pretty sure opposing teams would have plenty of trouble trying to guard the guy.

If you're good enough to be drafted in the lottery on athleticism alone (Gerald Green) and you possess the height/athleticism he possesses, pretty sure he could be a dominant WR...

You guys are acting like it's a rocket science position...Devin Hester plays WR in the NFL...and the Bears wouldn't let him return kicks his rookie season because they didn't think he was smart enough.
And after two games his knees would be shot from the tackles at his size..

His body dictates he has to play BB..

you guys are insane if you think football players are more athletic than basketball players...

Ok, I'll give someone like Willie Roaf credit...that dude is a freak of nature...but Terrell Owens, Randy Moss...those guys would be below average athletes in the NBA...and both of them would rather be in the NBA, they were just never good enough.

Those two have been the best receivers in the NFL (arguably) the last decade...if it made financial sense for LeBron to be in the NFL...he'd be the #1 pick...and the #1 pick in every fantasy draft every season. The dude would be indefensible.

And if LeBron could make it...maybe Gerald Green, NBA bust, would give the NFL a shot...and then it would become an epidemic...because these super freakish athletes who bust out in the NBA because they can't develop that 18 footer, like Tyrus Thomas (that dude is a ****ing animal), they might realize they could become SUPERSTARS in the NFL because no one could guard them...

Boston kind of proves my point. Sure he bulked up but is screwed his flexibility and overall athletic ability. NFL guys have a body type that when well trained achieve the optimum in speed, strength, agility, flexibility and explosive power at defines overall athleticism. Some NBA types fit in to that category, but you'll find more of them in the NFL.

Not really man. I was a 6'4 and on the basketball court could jump on the run and touch the top of the backboard. Never translated on the football for me. Colleges wanted the crap out of me of bc of my physical skills not bc of my play. Catching a football in a live game is one of the hardest skills in sports.

Anquan Boldin ran what, a 4.7?

I'd take Gerald Green on as a project over DeSean Jackson...and Jackson was a 2nd round pick.

Turn Green into a receiver and he might revolutionize the game...the beginning of the 6'6"+ receiver...

Boldin was hurt when he ran at the combine; he doesn't really run a 4.7.

And you;re crazy if you think marginal NBA players like Green could "revolutionize" the NFL. If all you needed was height, someone would have done it already. There is a reason you don't see WRs that tall. You don't seem to understand that the body types and athleticism required for basketball and football are completely different.

and you know what, lets look beyond the basketball to football transition...

To say NFL players are more athletic than NBA players is sheer lunacy.

I did it in high school, dont have any film of it bc mainly it was jacking around during basketball practice.

You really are showing that you have never played football in a live contact setting if you think you can convert basketball players to football players. It takes more than just physical ability to make a football player.

You can convert a basketball player to football...there are at least a dozen guys in the NBA that could easily be NFL players...probably more.

I'd like to see one NFL guy make an NBA team.

You are confusing skills with athletic ability.

and if you think the only reason these guys couldn't play football is because they are too tall...then lets focus on a guy like Derrick Rose...Derrick Rose would be a PLUS size WR...and he is super quick and agile with great vision and is one of the most athletic people I've ever witnessed...and he's 20.

Skills for a receiver...

Learn how to run a route...pretty sure these NBA guys with terrific agility and body control could do this.

Learn a playbook. Pretty sure they can do this.

Learn how to shed press coverage. Pretty sure if DeSean Jackson can do it, LeBron James could do it.

Learn how to take a hit. Who knows? But come on...if Eddie Kennison can take a hit, I'm pretty sure LeBron isn't going to get hit and decide he's done with sports.

Learn how to block. Most receivers don't do this anyways, but I'm pretty sure LeBron could get in the way of a safety every once in a while.

you guys are acting like I'm saying LeBron could play QB...it doesn't take rocket science to learn how to be a receiver...

Shit, Gates NEVER played football...it took him one season to become a dominant TE...and TE is a far, far, far more complicated position than WR.
