New Yankee Stadium possibly a disaster?

Interesting articles on ESPN and other sites. Its early, but we may have an explanation for those high-scoring games in New York. Apparently the configuration of the seating may have inadvertantly created some sort of wind tunnel effect blowing to right field. Rival team scouts have sent the word out around baseball that Yankee Stadium now plays more like Coors Field.

That may be exciting for fans, but the Yankees may have screwed themselves with their $1.5 Billion-dollar ballpark. If you want to compete, you do NOT want a hitter's paradise. Good pitchers are rarer and harder to sign as free agents than hitters. You can find a lot of servicable hitters and a few superstar bats every year, but only the best teams have good pitching. If the new stadium plays short, the Yankees could have problems getting free agent pitchers to wear pinstripes. There are plenty of wealthy teams that play in good pitchers parks.

There's always going to be certain seats that occupy certain spots around a stadium when the price is jacked up high. Unfortunetely, that applies to popular sports across the nation. But, then teams need to provide a reasonable rate to an ongoing committed fanbase.

At Yankee Stadium, there are plenty of seats available in the $14-$25-$30 price range. I'm sure you would know more if that thinking isn't applied elsewhere. Otherwise, filling those seats would be a problem -- In addition, it would affect businesses that occupy space in and around the stadium.

The total seating capacity at Yankee Stadium: 56,000
Total elite seats: 4,000

"In becoming the first Major League player to break the color barrier, Jackie will forever be an inspiration with his grace, dignity and perseverance. His story and the stories of those who never had the same opportunity must never be forgotten." -- New York Yankees

Jackie Robinson, plaque dedicated April 17, 2007. In honor of Robinson's unique place as the first African-American player of the modern era, his number 42 was retired throughout baseball on April 15, 1997, the 50th anniversary of his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Players active at the time of the number's retirement in 1997 were granted a special exemption (grandfather clause) permitting them to continue wearing the number for the remainder of their careers; the last such player still active is Yankee relief pitcher Mariano Rivera. The number will be ceremonially retired by the Yankees after Rivera retires.

The hallways are lined with classic and current photos.

It's such a great place to visit -- it's like a baseball museum. I took my little nephew and two of his friends to a game. They're reaction to the whole experience was priceless.

LOL... Delano, stop by smittybar's ASSCAR thread... Cup drivers will be racing in National (series below Cup) tonight, in addition to the Cup race tomorrow.

Kansas City boy and Cup driver, Carl Edwards won the pole. He's a good racer. Unfortunetely, this is a pretty dangerous track --it's not uncommon to see cars lift off like a rocket and go airborne -- Living life to the fullest...

see ya later!

I know I'm new here, but that sounds unbelievable.
