Crennel is gonna cost Clark some cash...

At that end of our post announcing Charlie Weis' hire in Kansas City, we mentioned that the next logical step would be hiring Romeo Crennel.

That move may be on its way.

A few prominent NFL voices believe Crennel could indeed by joining Todd Haley's staff. ESPN's Adam Schefter writes, "It's likely to be a New England reunion: Now that Charlie Weis has agreed to work in Kansas City, Romeo Crennel will not be far behind."

Mark Maske of the Washington Post writes: "Romeo Crennel could be next as defensive coordinator [In Kansas City]."

The Chiefs will have competition for Crennel's services, though. Crennel's agent said this week his client would also be interested in the Giants job. Crennel is currently on vacation, and won't be back until Monday.

Michael Smith of ESPN threw out other possibilities on Twitter, like perhaps Buffalo or Miami.

The moral of the story: If the Chiefs want Crennel, they may have to fight for him.

You are probably right about Wade staying. But "going in the right direction"? If you mean, headed home after a loss this weekend (or next weekend at best), then I agree. Wade is Marty. He gets teams to the playoffs, but can't win. It's his curse. He's a playoff loser. It doesn't help him that Tony Romo is Danny White. He'll find a way to not win if possible. I'm surprised you can't see this having watched Marty all those years.

Wade Phillips will NEVER take the Cowboys (or any team) to a Super Bowl.

After perusing several threads, it appears that some of the Haters are dead set against the hiring of Crennel. If any Haters are out there, I'd like to know the rationale behind that view.

Last year, people were very excited about Crennel and disappointed we didn't bring him in. Is it because he worked for the Patriots? Or is there another reason?

If I can speak for them, what I've read is that Belichick was the defensive genius and Crennel basically was a puppet.

It seems that's the battle cry for everything.

Bill did all the work. Everyone else just did what he told them.

The Cowboys defense is light years ahead of where it's been the past few years. The offense, with the emergence of Miles Austin, is one of the best in the league.

How is that not headed in the right direction?

So ... the argument is that Crennel has no skills? No knowledge? No ability? Didn't learn anything about running a defense while acquiring those ring things?

One of the arguments is that his defenses were piss poor in Cleveland.

Correct. Same with Pioli, Weiss and Crennell. Its all been Bellicheck and the rest of the NE crew were just along for the ride and learned nothing while there.

I'd take Perry Fewell over Crennel but I think he lands with the New York Giants.

Crennel isn't a bad hire but he hasn't exactly distinguished himself working without Belichick.

Weis on the other hand, has.

All things being equal, I'd rather have a DC that wouldn't be running the traditional 2 gap 3-4. But with Pioli at the helm, that doesn't seem to be an option. Thus Crennel is probably one of the better options.
