What makes you a Matt Cassel fan next season?

What does he have to do to convince you he is worth the starting spot? I won't say worth the $ cause I don't think that will ever happen but, that being said....

That had nothing to do with my point at all. My point is you have to have EVERYTHING. How about that Titans defense? Or Houston's special teams?

8 of the top 10 defenses are in the playoffs this year. 8 of the top 10 offenses are in the playoffs this year. YOU HAVE TO HAVE BOTH. This total-d smashmoth RB teams don't work, and neither do the high-flying ones with no defense. You have to be good at both, actually all three (special teams).

So, when you have a problem, you fix it. If its O-line, spend the pick if it fixes it. If you need a good LT then get one.

Its the USC in him. I haven't been around here long, but when I guy cheers for a certain college team and does so for an extended time (I'm guessing this is the case) he gets to talk about those players all he wants, and how he wishes we could have gotten them. I mean, Jeremy Maclin would look great in a Chiefs uniform. So would Danario Alexander.

My question is only why someone would want to cheer for USC... yuck LOL JK

For those who don't think the "trenches" matter anymore (Kirwan at nfl.com):

Pressure busts pipes

Getting after quarterbacks and putting them on the ground before they throw the ball is a critical component to success. The four winning teams this weekend called 95 pass plays and were sacked just three times! The winners were sacked once every 32 attempts. The four losing teams called 172 pass plays and they were sacked 15 times, or once every 11 attempts. Pass pressure busts quarterbacks and offenses; all four of the wild-card winners won that battle.

Take the Green Bay Packers, for example: In their five regular-season losses, they allowed an average of five sacks per game. In the past month -- or since left tackle Mark Tauscher got back on the field -- the sacks disappeared. But against the Cardinals Sunday, they hit that magic number five again and they lost.

The Eagles struggled once again versus the Cowboys' defense. Last week, in the fight for the division title, Eagles QB Donovan McNabb was sacked four and the Eagles lost. McNabb was sacked four times this week and Philadelphia lost again.

The 2009 season marked the first time in NFL history that 10 quarterbacks threw for more than 4,000 yards, and it is clearly a league that passes to set up the run. But wild-card weekend told a different story. It was a weekend in which running the ball well was rewarded with a victory. The four winning teams ran the ball 151 times for 759 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. The four losing teams combined for 73 carries, 381 yards and one touchdown. Every winning team scored on the ground and only one of the four losers (Cincinnati) crossed the goal line on the ground.

I think everyone is in agreement that we need to upgrade the Oline, just not with a first round pick.

With the exception of a player like Suh, or Roaf, or a dominant nose, we should be pretty close to being done drafting first round big uglies for quite some time.

I am expecting him to be much better now that Charlie Weis is the O.C. If he has another season next year like this one, he's done as far as Ia m concerned.

I am already a Matt Cassel fan. Cassel showed a tremendous toughness and resilience this season.

Now, he did not play well enough.... but I am a fan of the person.

I am not the majority when it comes to QB's. I think that there are very few 'franchise' QB's. The rest are made due to schemes, the talent around them and the ability of offensive coordinators to call a good game.

I think Cassel can be a good QB. I need to see him make better decisions, and hit the deep ball more. I think the better decisions will be helped with another year in the offense, and a better offensive coordinator. I think the long ball will be helped by someone working with him on his mechanics, but more importantly consisentency in the WR corps.

But, I am already a fan. Hard not to be. The kid was beaten up repeatedly, and never quit, and continued to fight all season long.

Anyone have a link to team stats for dropped passes? I wonder which teams led the league and how it affected other teams.

LOL. No, he isn't Mark Sanchez. If the Jets had Cassel they would have won the East, and likely gotten a bye. Top offense and running game, and you still squeak into the playoffs? Great QB play there.

Trent Green was 31 when he was traded to the Chiefs and still struggled for a year before he found his rhythym. On a team with a better offensive line, with a HOF TE, a Pro Bowl Running back (terrific pass catching RB as well) and a Pro Bowl Fullback.

Kurt Warner was out of the league, and was a backup when he was 27. He was thrust into the starting position when Trent Green was hurt.

There are some franchise QB's. However, most 'great' QB's are merely a good fit in the system they are in and know that system inside and out.

Cassel should improve next season. As his familiarity with the offense and personel improve, so should he.

part of what somewhat intrigues me about Cassel, and Im not saying Im a fan quite yet, is the fact that nobody really knows what his ceiling is. He is the first prospect I can remember that never started at qb in college yet was drafted and ended up the starter of a NFL team.

He will no longer be deprived of good coaching and hopefully these guys will do what the can to put some pieces around him so he can succeed. Im anxious to se what he does in coming years.
